of say 25 to 30 guys hired by some rich dude could hold off a gang of 50,000 gang members with fully automatic weapons? I don't think so. I am positive that I myself could figure out a few ways to get rid of 25 to 30 guys if I needed to feed my kids. You don't have to always shoot, there are many ways to skin a cat, especially a fat cat.

I don't think you should assume that

a) the grounds aren't mined (if they are even nearby and accessible);
b) there're only 20 or 30 guys; or
c) your buddies aren't going to turn on you first cuz you're more vulnerable prey.

You should do a quick search on "Security." ...Just the ad copy will convince you. ...and FYI - these are the guys that are pulling down $3,000 a day and up in Iraq. Never mind pork and graft, they've actually got skills.

I would say that the best way to terrorize America would be to permanently or semi-permanently disable electricity flow through and to larger cities.

Refrigeration would be lost, leading to food shortages. Water treatment facilites would shut down, adding an element of biological warfare as a secondary effect. Monetary transactions would largely cease, due to the need for electricity to conduct them.

People in large cities would generally not know what to do with themselves should the power go out for an extended period of time.

They would be looking at those red states and counties a little bit differently then I guess.....

Actually they (fanatical Islamic terrorists) are attempting to continue terrorizing us by not doing anything at this point, hoping that tidal forces in this internally stormy time will shread us from within. Judging from the divisive posts on the board calling for succession and such nonsense, it is working with some. The best way to terrorize us is to make us doubt ourselves as a nation and each other as citizens.

[edit added]
I think they will wait for a while, hoping for Iraq to fester and for complacency to set in with the American people.

Ambient sound,

I read all these posts and was supprised to see no one else could see the light. The terrorists are already doing what they planned to do. Divide our country from within. Force half our population against the other half. One half of US citizens is growing resentful of our current leadership, calling for us to call off our attacks in the middle east. The other half doesn't want us to stop fighting until terrorism is no more. Judging by some of the radical anti-Bush, anti-America threads I've seen posted on this site. I'd have to say they are doing a pretty good job.

The terrorists don't need to strike America with anymore bombs, their plan is already in effect.

What I told my wife was this:

Fill a 2 large U-Hauls with explosives, then drive on the 405 freeway here in L.A. and get into a major accident with one. Like cross three lanes of rush hour traffic and bring traffic to a halt. Then box in the traffic in the back with another major accident. Then BLOW THEM UP. Then you would kill at least a thousand people. Now people would be worried that even on their way to work everyday they could be targets. Plus if you do it in L.A. there are usually hellicopters overhead of every accident so you would probably get it on film. Detonate them when you hear the chopers overhead. It could be devestating, cripple the city for a while. What would the government do after that, X-ray trucks as they are driving down the road?????

Of course the truck's bomb would be filled with shrapnel to maximize collateral damage. Just my opinion.

I agree the terrorism is working RIGHT NOW; terrorism is a state of mind not a series of brutal attacks. In the UK the IRA used a technique called terrorism in its truest sense. That is to create an unnerving feeling and imbalanced security to the majority of the population. By bombing a few pubs now and again or killing an MP the whole country became frightened. Then they targeted financial centres, (the 9/11 attacks are a version upgrade of the IRA attack on Canary Wharf in London.)
When the Bin Laden tape was released last week everyone was worried that there would be a new and awful attack upon America. When nothing happened everyone thought "well he did not have the power or means to carry it through" Well guess what he DID carry it through, because he created the same sense of unnerving fear throughout the country. The attack on 9/11 gave the terrorists great currency to make idle threats and get the same results as blowing up gas stations throughout the country. America is now in a war with the bogeyman that goes BOO! inside your closet and laughs as you all jump for your lives.

America was internally divided long before we realized that terrorists had declared Jihad on us. Our internal strife is of our own making, and to say that terrorism is the cause of it is simply a shift of blame, and a lack of accountability.

We, as a people, are smarter, better, and stronger than to allow terrorists to divide us. These qualities, to include our pride and hardheadedness is to blame for our unwillingness to see past our differences.

You elect a president from Texas whose grandfather was a Nazi party supporter and honary member. Then you create something called the patriot act, then you tell people that the little people of the middle east want to eat them for dinner, you have a Nazi Attorney General named Ashcroft abuse the Patriot Act and you have prisoner abuse scandals all over the place after you invade a couple of countries and illegally detain people because of their race. From that it's pretty easy to see that the government only cares about itself and will destory anything in order to survive even if it isn't a threat which leaves the people of this country with their arms up in the air wondering what happened to their system of government all the while the president continues on his paranoid ramblings that are experienced normally by dry drunks and former drug addicts.. You have any better way?

yeah, take away the internet.

The world will be bankrupt, the people here will be out killing and looting the same rich idiots who started the mess. I mean if it comes down between having to take out a rich idiot to feed my kids, the rich guy goes and quick. I would hate to be one of the elite when the poor revolt and are starving.

The world will not collapse if the US is destroyed. Perhaps you over-estimate the American infiltration of national economies, and yes, they do still exist, the world isn't completely globalised, yet.

An interesting truth. I saw this all too well during the hurricanes that swept through FL this year....

Terrorism is Psychological warfare.

Killing a few, scarying many.

Killing anonymous citizens provokes outrage, but the majority of the US population doesn't actually know the people who died, unless they were their family or friends, etc.

But who does most people know? Famous people. Hollywood.

A small or medium sized nuclear device (the real thing, no dirty bomb), carefully placed to kill everyone during an Oscar Ceremony.

Conventional explosives could do it, but the security is so tight that getting a nuclear device and put it some buildings away and setting it off would be actually easier than getting pass all that security.

A nuke would also garantee 100% deaths (people in the Ceremony and some extra civilians in the surrounding area)

Immediate Consequences:

tens, hundreds of thousands casualties, the cream of the crop of Hollywood actors dead.

The Country in a state of Shock, Anger, possibly Fear.

West Coast is typically more liberal, with this act , Terrorist could unite the US citizens under a common goal , War on Terrorism.

The Administration would have a free hand to invade 4-5 countries
and would do so, thus leading to further US international isolation, but with the difference that this time the majority of US citizens wouldn't even bother , since they would be too focused on getting whoever planned that attack, no matter what cost.

Mid Term Consequences:

The Movie Industry would be dramatically affected, the amount of movies, and of documentaries , debates , and words printed regarding this attack would be immense, thus perpetuating the trauma.

With the Invasion of Syria, Lybia, Iran, North Korea, and possibly other countries, Geopolitics would shift dramatically.

Stock Exchanges world wide crash.

Full Blown Economic Crisis. Rampant Unemployment. World Wide Militarization.

read my signature. it is the dictionary definition of terrorism. the 911 fiasco was a good shocker, but the constant bleed of media bombardment has been a much, MUCH bigger fear inducer.
i have to admit, i laughed my arse off about the plastic and duct tape thing, though. owning shares in the companies which profit from all this 'terror threat' business is just too good to be true.
i want a terror alert NEON, so i know when to get really scared.
anti-bush does not equal anti-american.
i DO have an anti-american sentiment, though. the hipocracy of this cliche, -'america the brave'. 'america the scared rabbits with big teeth' is more like it.

freedom from choice, is what you want' -devo

I think it would be very easy to hijack a fuel tanker and dump its contents at Hawaii. Would destroy the habitat and force the human population to be evacuated to the US as the Hawaiin economy would be destroyed permanently. Don't know if there are any effective safeguards against this type of eco-terrorism. Could also be repeated at many popular places along the US coastline.

I don't condone terrorism at all, but I would pay damn good money to see this.
