Choosing the right profession/career

I'm not sure if I chose the right forum category, I apologize if I made a mistake.

Hello Ladies and Gentleman, today I'm going to need a little help from you, if possible.

I'm at a crossroad in my life and I'm sure that the vast majority of you have been in my place. Now in a year I have to bring one of the most important decisions that one can make, choose a career. It seems like a lot of time but believe me, it isn't.

I live in a country where the higher learning institutions are terrible, the diploma isn't very valuable outside these borders, but since I'm in no place or to be more specific I don't have the assets to educate myself outside this country, at least not right now, I am forced to study over here. Now since more than 95% of the high school graduates over here choose to further their education and enrol in one of the higher learning institutions, the effect of "standing out" from the crowd is almost impossible with all these people enrolling and actually graduating universities, since it's pretty easy to graduate.

I was thinking of maybe enrolling in 2 faculties at once(2 majors or whatever you call it) since I want to "live up" to my full potential(not trying to be pretentious). After I graduate college/university I plan on leaving this country but I think that this is irrelevant.

What I need from you as a help is for you to share your own experiences if you feel like sharing . Did you choose the right career? Do you think that choosing a profession you love over a profession that will ensure financial stability is better or vice versa? Do you like/love your job? Mistakes you have made? Anything you feel is relevant to this topic.

I would be extremely grateful if you help me since this is a pretty tough decision for me, plus this is a kind of research paper that I'm working on.

Things I love doing: talking(public speaking), writing, organising, debating, discussing, teaching/preaching, philosophising, questioning things, sociology, law, philosophy, history those kind of subjects.
Skills that I poses(One of the best in my generation) and I can ensure a better financial stability with:
Web developing, programming and basically could be said, computers.


And to avoid further confusion, the thing that is of primary interest to me:
1. Have you chose a career that you love or a career that ensured financial stability, or somehow both?
2. If you have to make that choice again, would you change anything?

If you want financial stability, anything in the medical field would serve you well. As for a job you will love, what are your interests?

That is the thing that I don't know if I want financial stability or a career that I will love, or somehow combine both.
I love talking, writing, organising, debating, discussing, teaching/preaching, philosophising, questioning things, sociology, those kind of subjects.
But I also am pretty good at a couple of other things(one of the best in my generation, can say the best)
Web developing, programming and basically could be said, computers.
But I'm not really interested in medicine

Now the first one would be my love, but the second one a skill that will insure a better financial future.

Without knowing what your high school qualifications are, we really can't say...

If you plan to go to university to do science, then subjects like physics, aerodynamics, computational mathematics give you the widest choice of career options. You can go into finance, academic or industrial research (physics/computer science). Going to a university with large research departments with industrial contacts because an internship with a good university also helps.

When I first started out in college, I was a double science major with plans . Wanted to work for the US Forestry service, preferably in the field. Got sick and that eliminated that dream. Years later, opportunity came up to go back to college. Family urged me to go into my second forte--business administration/accounting--on the basis of it having that stability factor involved. Did well as to be expected but you know what? I hate my chosen profession. My heart still wants to be working in a forest or with nature. If I had to do it again, I would've gone back and worked to get that phd.

Don't do something just because it has the job stability. If this is the one life you've got, make it count for you. It's your life so make your own measure of success. Choosing what you love sometimes doesn't work out but, at the end of the day, at least you tried.
