as someone who has been called it numerous times in a derogatory sense at first i say yes, actually i say yes with exclamation!

but on the other hand it's just a word, same as the N word, the hate behind it is worse than the actually word. Any 'Bad Word' is just words meaningless without meaning behind them, i could easily be offended by any word

i must say it is more acceptable to say the F word than ever the N word, Gay has been a slang for 'bad' for some time, the F word gets tossed around in a derogatory sense, and in a 'Playing around' sense but still the meaning behind it is a stereotypical derogatory remark,

personally, words are words and we all have freedom of speech and expression, but hate and intolerance should be viewed as unacceptable

I use the word "faggot" all the time. Like if I see two guys fighting over some ugly chicks? Clearly faggots. When I see some guy on a Suzuki GSXR with a "chicken strip" on his back wheel and wearing no protection except a helmet, I call him a faggot. When I see two guys making out, I call them gay.

I'll probably be charged with a hate crime some day because I see some faggy GIXXER popping wheelies without a tee shirt while some gays are around.

My point? Don't drive Suzuki GSXR's shirtless. In fact, don't drive them at all.

Sincerely,
A Honda CBR 1100 XX owner who likes gays but hates fags.

I'm gay and personally the word does not offend me. It never has- it's just a WORD.

Anyone else remember that song when you were little?

'Sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me'.

What I find stupid and pretty much offensive is the way people let themselves be upset by a word. No matter what word it could be - they let it upset and effect them. Personally, I believe that they are playing the victim- creating a situation full of conflict that does not need to occur.

I was under the impression that fagg0t meant a bunch of sticks? Why do people let words hurt them, I know it's more of the feelings expressed when said word is used, but still. Sticks and stones. sticks and stones

its not so much the words but the context and how they are used. there are sleep deprivation techniques that use words. if your the person on the receiving end of that tell me again if words bother you.

to answer the first question they are both words that can be hurtful but again it all comes down to context. all words are is a trigger to create a thought command.

If that was sarcasm i apologize for not getting it,

as i stated people are free to speech and expression, but it's sad that people attempt to hurt people with words that as many have said are meaningless without meaning behind them.

but if people are going to get upset about the N word or by any derogatory slang for any race the F word should be included

I work as a teacher and have a number of Sudanese students. They insist they can call each other the 'N' word, but if a white person says it, it is racist.

I try to tell them it is a derogatory term, and that it is itself racist to decide who can and cannot use a word, but still they persist.

In this particular case the term is being used offensively on the T Shirt. If you can't see that, then you either agree with it or just a bit slow.

Who buys a T shirt like that. What parent lets their kid wear it?

Blacks in the US use the N word allot I noticed.
It's the forbidden word for Whites? It's okay as long black says it against blacks it seems.

Perhaps gays use the word Faggot allot more then straight guys as well?

That said both are not nice words and personally I don't say those words but don't get hysterical/emotional about it when someone is using such words.

black people call each other the "n" word all the time, gay people call each other the "f" word all the time.. etc.. no one outside anyone's race, ethnicity, culture.. etc.. should use the idioms or slang or whatever.

it should be common sense but sadly it falls short on the majority of people.

if i saw that kid with that shirt i would seek out his parents and kick his dads butt because that's where the problem begins. hate and stupidity is taught.. it's not something you're born with.

So.. you have a problem with "hate" and so, because you don't like "hate" you are willing to go physically assault someone because of their "hate" .. yet find nothing hypocritical, ignorant, or otherwise .... hateful.. about that?

I don't use derogatory vocabulary when referring to others. If I know you, I will call you by your given name. If I don't know you, I will address you as "sir" or "ma'am", even if you are younger than me. I'm 40. Sure, people can say that words are just words and it doesn't matter, but I believe it does. It reflects so poorly on the speaker that I don't want to know them at all.

Not entertaining those words or allowing them to percolate in my alleged brain has served me well.

They weren't even recognised as being who they were!! Or even allowed to be who they

were until less than 50 years ago!!

So yes they were humiliated and discriminated against

As with everything else it is the thought that counts. The most powerful tool in human history is the mouth. It can lift those in despair and knock those riding high down, and it can do it all in one sentence. It is very difficult to take any word and put it in a do not say list especially when the word in question has gotten re-purposed.

Humans are social creatures, and one aspect of that is an ability to adapt language usage to the social circle we are in. If you are white and in a circle of black people using the n word (God I so hate having to put it like that) it will only be a matter of time before you feel socially at ease and slip and use it. It isn't insensitive, it isn't racist it is you however being human and adapting to your social circle. And this is where the problem is, you do not simply just get to say well x can use this word and y can't and expect things to work out well.

As to the case of the T shirt wearing child. We don't know his story or his social circle by any means. All we know is he was wearing a shirt that could be arguably offensive. The only thing I can really say is perhaps he should show better judgment in his clothing choices, because he could very well find himself in a situation where a gay person has to help him and will simply refuse.

Perhaps it's because we have faggots on the walls of Congress but not any ni**ers:

faggot or fagot,
branch or twig, or bundle of these Fascine,
bundle of brushwood used in civil and military engineering
Fasces, ancient symbol of an axe bound in a bundle of rods

en.wikipedia.org...

Words only have the power we give them.
People use them over and over and apply them incorrectly.
The over usage of both terms has rendered them both somewhat meaningless.
With any luck no word will be cause for violence one day.

Oh contraire Pierre!
Homosexuals have long been persecuted and even killed in nearly every continent in nearly every century.
We know the old testament of the bible says to "stone those who have lain with another man".
I don't think they were kidding about that part either.

No, blacks aren't the only ones who can say it without persecution. Around here we have a rather small black population (due to something that happened in the 30's). The white/hispanic split is 48/48, with the other 4% being asian and black.

You hear the younger hispanic "thugs" use it as well. It is very funny to watch these poor, mixed up kids. I am white, but am wholly from a latin culture (I embraced the Mexican culture in the areas I grew up in....as did my family. We came from south El Paso 2 generations back). When I see an 19 year old hispanic male calling his friends "nigga" is hilarious. One guy I know said he wanted to embrace his heritage, so he named his dog Gucci and his kid Giovanni. LOL

Both words can get you beat up. Just don't say it to someones face and youll be OK............or just don't say it at all. I know its hard.

The problem is, they WILL hurt you. The word has a negative connotation. Being called one puts you in a certain light in other people's eyes. Who cares, you say? The 'straight' world isn't too keen on hiring faggots. People will treat you with less respect. You may not believe me now, but it is true.

The tools of conquest do not necessarily come with bombs and explosions and fallout. There are weapons that are simply thoughts, attitudes, prejudices - to be found only in the minds of men. For the record, prejudices can kill and suspicion can destroy, and a thoughtless, frightened search for a scapegoat has a fallout all its own - for the children and the children yet unborn.
