Historically, picking fights with Russia tends to prove to be a big mistake.

The Saudis may find that the Russians are not quite the soft touch that the US turned out to be.

Could you list an example of why it's a big mistake? I would like to know since I they didn't fair too well against a bunch of Afghans living in caves. They seem about as inept as the US.

I said it before and I say it again

Saudi Arabia and Israel are not US puppets

They are the puppet masters, if either falls, the other will follow

Saudi Arabia and Israel are sisters

Umm? The US 'turned out to be a soft touch'?

Saudi Arabia is a US vassal state - the rulers there are puppets of the western powers, held in place only by the presence and ongoing threat of military force.

I see this misinterpretation often repeated - that the US controllers 'offered' Saudi Arabia military support in exchange for selling oil for dollars. Do you really think they could have said no? It was a simple matter of take the offer, or we will kill you guys and replace you with someone who says yes.

At the moment the escalation with Iran is a lot worse than most people think. Iran has one card to play - all out attack of all oil facilities within range - and it has to hit everything at once, as hard as it can.

So, the western powers will try to boil the frog, through sanctions and covert means - if they get physical, Iran will play its card - and then the US will be plunged into total chaos - no oil, no empire. Cutting off the flow of oil into the US will make the Great Depression look like a picnic - there is no historical comparison - global starvation, collapsing nations etc etc - the impact will be unimaginable, and I think Iran will play that card if provoked - it will have no choice, and it is the western oligarchs who are forcing this towards the brink of that chasm.

Not to mention he stole an American billionaires Super Bowl ring right in front of his face. Or Snowden.

He almost seems like one of the few world leaders left who has any kind of 'street cred'.

I really got a chuckle out of the comments in this thread.

Saudi Arabia appears on the verge of signing a groundbreaking, US$2 billion (Dh7.3bn) arms deal with Russia. Although the Saudis refuse to confirm or deny that negotiations are going on, the Russians appear confident the deal will go through in the coming months, sending a shiver through the ranks of conservative commentators in the United States. Until now, Saudi Arabia, which is expected to have a defence budget reaching $44bn next year, has bought virtually all of its military equipment from the West, w Read more: www.thenational.ae... Russia is close to signing new contracts with Saudi Arabia on the export of helicopters and air defense missiles systems in addition to recent arms deals with Riyadh, state-run arms exporter Rosoboronexport said on Monday.

I really love the exaggerated statements how the US/Saudi are 'best buds'.

Oh, Jesus Christ!

I cannot just take that at face value without some more details, but this is something we should be looking at very closely.

My thoughts right now are too numerous to type. There's a lot different reasons this could be taking place. Perhaps for economic reasons, Saudi Arabia has more interest in the East now (and has been selling China oil outside the US dollar) than the West and all the screwed up European economies. What's really important is what kind of concessions Russia made... if any, to get this deal... and what is their thinking now? Why betray Syria after all the media posturing?

We can't pretend to know exactly what this means but it deserves a lot of questioning.

I'm going to sit back and ponder this while absorbing some more on it.

So both sides base their decision on running their energy cartels. Makes none better than the other.

Don't feel bad mate, i was brought up to think of the Russians as a barbarous, treacherous enemy here in the UK decades ago, but the more i hear about Russia these days, the more i'm starting to wonder who the real enemy actually was all those years ago.

They look after their own, they keep their word to their allies, they are doing more to preserve truth and whistle blowers than just about anyone else on Earth...yes there is obviously self-interest as a motivation, and rightly so of course, but they are hardly anything approaching the dribbling oppressors that my Government and media were propagandizing about incessantly during the 70's and 80's...far from it apparently.

It seems the further the USA slips into the mire of oppression and corruption and is busy pissing away its moral compass in exchange for more corporate leg-ups and cash stuffed brown paper bags, the more Russia is emerging as the moral anchor of the world these days...a real turn about and a shocking departure from the image of Russia cultivated in our minds during the cold war.

As for MSM...RT news is the only MSM news channel i watch now, the rest are so obviously in the pockets of business and it's cronies in government, it's pointless bothering to try and read between the lines for the odd grain of truth in it's broadcasts...RT always reports on 'edgy' and controversial topics first, sometimes days before our MSM, often it's the only source for real information, when our MSM won't touch certain topics.

Good for Russia.

Considering our last three leaders in the US I agree. Bear in mind we are just now finding out about the crap they have pulled in our name, had we known, things would have been different.

They weren't really just fighting the Afghans, were they?

I notice that the US is currently doing a much better job against exactly the same people, even thought their opponents are no longer supported by a superpower.

I think the really tragic part of all that is that i don't think things would be any different if we knew all the crap that goes on..it's sad but i think the vast majority of people wouldn't believe the crap, or wouldn't care about it enough to be motivated into doing much of anything.
