If you have ever tried bringing up the 'education conspiracy', one can feel foolish trying to put it all into words. It is a hard one to explain, especially how strongly it goes against the majority of people's perceptions, often seemingly unbreakable perceptions. The following is an excellent short video explaining in very few words how education is used as a tool to control us and our society-

Yes, education teaches us how to read and write, but given how much time we spend in school, what do we actually learn, learn? How to fix a car? How to grow food? How to think for ourselves? How to survive? No. We learn how to conform, how to sit in a room and repeat facts and figures. The fact is, we go to school to learn how to make it in the real world yet we leave school with no real skills other than how to conform and live a life of subservience to 'the system'.

Short video, well worth a watch

Public education is to produce a standardized citizen, capable of the work required by industry, but dumb enough not to ask too many questions.

H.L. Mencken• "The aim of public education is not to spread enlightenment at all, it is simply to reduce as many individuals as possible to the same safe level, to breed and train a standardized citizenry, to put down dissent and originality. That is its aim in the United States, whatever the pretensions of politicians, pedagogues and other such mountebanks, and that is its aim everywhere else."

Bertrand Russell• "What's the difference between a bright, inquisitive five-year-old, and a dull, stupid nineteen-year-old? Fourteen years of the British educational system."

Mark Twain• "In the first place God made idiots. This was for practice. Then he made school boards."

Marshall McLuhan• "The school system ... is the homogenizing hopper into which we toss our integral tots for processing."

Helen Beatrix Potter• "Thank goodness I was never sent to school; it would have rubbed off some of the originality."

Laurence J. Peter• "Education is a method whereby one acquires a higher grade of prejudices."

Anne Sullivan• "I am beginning to suspect all elaborate and special systems of education. They seem to me to be built up on the supposition that every child is a kind of idiot who must be taught to think."

Tracy Kidder• "Put twenty or more children of roughly the same age in a little room, confine them to desks, make them wait in lines, make them behave. It is as if a secret commission, now lost to history, had made a study of children and, having figured out what the greatest number were least disposed to do, declared that all of them should do it."

Bertrand Russell• "Men are born ignorant, not stupid; they are made stupid by education. Education is one of the chief obstacles to intelligence and freedom of thought."

Joseph Stalin• "Education is a weapon, whose effect depends on who holds it in his hands and at whom it is aimed."

Norman Douglas• "Education is a state-controlled manufactory of echoes."

George Bernard Shaw• "There is nothing on earth intended for innocent people so horrible as a school."

Alice Duer Miller• "It is among the commonplaces of education that we often first cut off the living root and then try to replace its natural functions by artificial means. Thus we suppress the child's curiosity and then when he lacks a natural interest in learning he is offered special coaching for his scholastic difficulties."

Fred Emery• "School pokes your eyes out and uni teaches you to read Braille."

John Holt• "Organized education operates on the assumption that children learn only when and only what and only because we teach them. That is not true. It is very close to one hundred percent false."

John Taylor• "Gatto School is about learning to wait your turn, however long it takes to come, if ever. And how to submit with a show of enthusiasm to the judgment of strangers, even if they are wrong, even if your enthusiasm is phony."

My favorite.

Anonymous"Public school is a place of detention for children placed in the care of teachers who are afraid of the principal, principals who are afraid of the school board, school boards who are afraid of the parents, parents who are afraid of the children, and children who are afraid of nobody."

Funny, I learnt how to work metal, wood and plastic, how to cook, even how to sow.

We did camping trips, had lessons with indigenous folk teaching us how their ancestors lived.

And this was at a public school.

How many kids these days get to do all that stuff at school?
Metal work - Too dangerous. Might make a sharp knife and hurt themself.
Wood work - Too dangerous. Might get a splinter.
Cooking - Too dangerous. Might realise Mac D's is poison.

And the main point of the vid is the amount of YEARS they spend at school, and the almost total lack of anything of real use in the world we live in today.

One of the best vids I've seen OP. Short enough to fit into most peoples attention span too

Thanks for all the quotes, it all adds up that's for sure

But if you try explaining this to people with preconceived notions, they will think you are crazy.

This video is a great one to share on social media, as it is right to the point and less than 3 minutes long, hence it can make people at least question the current state of things.

Which brings us back to the point that you learned a few rudimentary skills in a 13 year stint at public school.

I got about 150 quotes on education, and it really does all add up.

I agree about the vid, thats why I made the comment about it being short. It's perfect, it pumps it in and leaves then no choice but to think about it.

Schools are there to baby-sit, while mommy and daddy work 2 jobs; to pay for a house they're never in, and drive a car that sits in the parking lot, all day. They're not their to "learn".

I've always had this idea, not only conforming though but I personally believe the biggest part of it all is to get used to and accept authority figures, makes alot of sense if ya sit down and give it 5 minutes
