In cases like this, it's always good to look at the original, raw images straight from NASA. That way we can tell if anyone's been messing around with the images. Here they are: marsrover.nasa.gov...

But to me it looks like a bit of soil or rock, distorted by the rover's wheels. It's an interesting little shape, but I wouldn't go as far as calling it an organism.

The colour composites I made from the raw images show it to be of the same composition as the little crushed rocks in the tracks:

Google Mars

Try and use a better source for nice views of the Martian terrain go Here

Google Mars is an excellent tool, especially when using the countless layers from different camera instruments & orbiters.

You can, for example, activate the CTX layer, which is the HiRISE context camera - it's B/W but has a great coverage of most of the planet's surface and a sufficient resolution for a first quick-check of terrain details. Here's a screenshot of the layers menu:

When additionally activating the HiRISE layer, you can see whether a particular part of Mars had already been imaged by MRO, which would then be indicated by a red rectangular selection.

When clicking on the red cursor in the center of that image strip, a window opens showing a preview. If you then click on "see this image's observation page" it'll take you right to the HiRISE source page where you can download the full high resolution image in various formats.

The highest quality is offered in JPG2000 format (JP2) and requires HiVIEW - but there are also other image formats available that can be directly viewed in your browser.

I know all about the layers as I have pointed them out before
but you can go direct to the sites and see the images and the biggest majority DON'T know about the layers option, they don't even know the BASICS of digital imaging to start with which is an even bigger problem on here!!!

Oh and don't have a paddy fit because people think it is rubbish. Just look harder

What more can I do - I've pointed to them in the video, and highlighted one to show it more clearly. You can go there yourself and check it out. Everyone I've had round my screen says, "You've found proof", so you are either being disingenuous, or can't see what's in front of your eyes... Or you are looking at the images on a mobile phone...

Interesting, but if you zoom in you can still see them. BTW, if you pull back a bit you can see an angle bracket embedded in the ground... It's on the right. If you look at my video, you'll see that I circle the cursor round it briefly before moving on to the creatures. The angle bracket on its own is a find!

Interesting that the background image on that NASA site shows Mars with a blue sky!

Finding an image with something strange in it, is not proof of anything......except that there is an image with something strange in it.

Proof of actual life would require much better proof. Such things as:

If it's movement is indicated by legs (I believe you said it had a broken leg)....where are tracks from it moving?

Most organic forms that I know of, when crushed under foot, bike or vehicle of any kind will cause it to rupture, spilling internal organs and circulartory fluid. Where is that?

That would be visual evidence....but not proof that can not be contradicted in anyway (unless of course it was an image of something obviously moving towards/away from a rover, and leaving some sort of tracks.

I'm afraid the only thing you have there is an interesting shape made by the martian soil with the rover's wheel tread.

It might be something else....but is is hardly proof of life on Mars.

Yeah, that's a rather strange background. Perhaps it's an impression of martian sky at night? (notice the stars) What's funny is that the image filename is "background_noBlue.png" - marsrover.nasa.gov...

No worries, wmd, I just had the feeling you were about to discredit Google Earth/Mars in general. I personally think it's great for navigating and finding stuff like certain craters, deltas etc. For me, that definitely works better than the HiRISE Online Image Viewer, which also comes with a not so intuitive GUI. It's a matter of taste, though.

And for those on here who use Google Mars: you might want to get familiar with the layer options (as far as you're not using them already) and look for HiRISE image strips, wherever they are available and explore them with HiVIEW - it's really worth downloading.

Here's a screenshot showing HiVIEW with Curiosity at the edge of Yellowknife Bay with the default contrast stretch enabled. The level of detail is amazing (~30cm/pixel):

They're not squished, just as you can walk over an ant without squishing it because it's been lucky enough to be in a gap in your sole tread. But the rear one definitely has a broken leg and is leaking blood from the break. You can see that just using google Mars, same as I've done. These things are tiny - they wouldn't be leaving tracks in that mess of rubble. That would be like you or me leaving tracks when walking over broken rock.

I think it's proof of life. They are both the same identical creatures, sort of looking at each other with their monocular eye. They have the same body shapes, are the same size, and have legs. What more proof do you need of life?

BTW If I have found this, so have NASA...

It would have left tracks in the ground on one side or the other of the tracks. There are none. Not even disturbed soil.

When I look at the original images, I do not see any fluid causing any discoloration of the soil. At the least, it would darken it more. Instead, I see material that matches the surrounding material that someone has taken into photo shop and highlighted and changed it colors to bring it out.

Life:

Life is a characteristic that distinguishes objects that have signaling and self-sustaining processes from those that do not,[1][2] either because such functions have ceased (death), or else because they lack such functions and are classified as inanimate.[3][4] Biology is the science concerned with the study of life. Any contiguous living system is called an organism. Organisms undergo metabolism, maintain homeostasis, possess a capacity to grow, respond to stimuli, reproduce and, through natural selection, adapt to their environment in successive generations. More complex living organisms can communicate through various means.[1][5] A diverse array of living organisms can be found in the biosphere of Earth, and the properties common to these organisms—plants, animals, fungi, protists, archaea, and bacteria—are a carbon- and water-based cellular form with complex organization and heritable genetic information.

What proof do I require? Quite a bit more than an image of soil and rock that is in the rover's tread that has been photoshopped by you.

I think you need to go back to the original video, and then go to Google Mars and zoom in on the left track like I did. You will see that there is no Photoshopping involved in that... And on a good screen the two little creatures can be seen clearly.

Also, you don't seem to be making sense. How would these tiny little creatures that are maybe a centimetre long, have left tracks? They were clearly living under the regolith, which had a hard surface before the rover cracked it to bits.
