It was a few days back that I heard this frail old women come on a popular radio talk show called coast to coast am discussing about her new book. I would not want to give any more credit to this book and thus keeping the name of the book out of this post.

I was struck with awe on listening to her speak authoritatively on such an important topic as life and death. For couple of days I could not blink my eyes. A person from far away Scotland has found the final answer to mankind. What happens after we die?

She has a good reputation with non another than the fabled Archie Roy in her company. There was hardly any Tricia Robertson critic spewing venom on her research. And much of what she said resonated with my own thesis on the subject matter.

And I said wow. If what she says is true, this is a game changer and I came across a spiritual blog where an online interview was published and posted my comments there.

I had long espoused the theory that the soul or the inner self is always immortal and has its own space and plane of existence separate from the physical body and posted about this with my comment.

Initially my positive comment was greeted by the owner of the spiritual blog and I got a personal email from him.

But then another few days passed and then I realized that what Tricia had uncovered has potentially dangerous consequences.

So I posted a new balanced critique of her theory suggesting that if as she says is true that people after death go to an eternal spirit world and where all are accepted; regardless of their actions in this physical world be it murder, rape or suicide then this could lead to chaos.

People knowing that after death there is no punishment awaiting them could be even more reckless and morbid in their actions back here with no sense of guilt. So far religious people had the fear of hell hanging over their head and hence constrained in their behavior.

But if people started believing the tale that Tricia has crafted based on her meticulous research into mediums, ghosts and the after life, then all hell would break loose here on earth.

My critique was subsequently removed from the blog as possibly not favorable for the brisk sales of the book in question. There was no reason given to me and I just found my comments gone.

Once again I do not want to give undue publicity to the blog or the book and hence kept the names out as I feel though conceptually I would want to agree with what Tricia has researched and written, I certainly do not agree to her wanton disregard to the consequences that should follow, in making such authoritative suggestions.

You mean the book Things You Can Do When You're Dead? Wasn't that hard to find. I even found the link for the coast to coast radio interview.

www.coasttocoastam.com...

I'm a little irked that you would even attempt to withhold the very reason you created this thread, deciding for us what we should and should not know. That's very bothering to me. But it's all good, because I just overrode your decision and shared the information with everyone who visits this thread.

So tell us - what about this book is so dangerous that you wanted to hide it?

ETA: Here is the online interview transcript that OP may have been referring to.

Pardon me, but; WHAT?
A) Even with "hell hanging over their head(s)" religious people (as a whole, mind you) have been not exactly been bastions of morality. Unless you have a different history book than I do...

B) Why is an afterlife necessary for a feeling of guilt in this life?

C) I do not believe an anything "that exceeds the limits of nature". Therefore, you should be able to tell me the kind of immoral life I live. Please, indulge me. What sort of "hell on earth" do I bring?

I have not yet read the book. And I am commenting on what she said on coast to coast am.

I do not have any argument with her theory or hypothesis on what happens after death. Each one to their own philosophy on that matter.

But in her interview on coast to coast am she says even people who commit suicide have a good time in her spirit world once they cross over. Will this not encourage more depressed people to end their life once they hear and read what she says on this and start believing it. This book of hers is not a book on fiction as in a novel or a book on UFOs. This is a book based on she claims scientific research. So people might give more weight to what she says in the book and start believing it is the final truth.

Same goes for those who commit crimes. As such the people all over the world are getting more violent day by day and if people come to know that no matter what they do, there is a peaceful, serene spirit world awaiting them and not HELL, don't you think the already violent human being will become even more careless and violent?

I know I am giving too much weight to a book by some unknown author. And majority of the people in the world would not be able to read this book as they do not know to read English.

I am not so much worried about the book. But the fact that coast to coast am has millions of listeners who must have heard what Tricia said. Do not worry if you commit suicide of kill someone, you will not face any problems once you die as there is no hell waiting for you.

If there really was proof of an afterlife and it was a better alternative to the physical life for people suffering here, how would this be a problem exactly?

What, is she like the first person to write a book about this sort of crap? There are literally thousands of people with "scientific evidence" writing papers on this junk every year. I really don't understand why you have so little faith in humanity.

I don't believe in hell. What keeps me moral? What is morality? What is morality's purpose? Does man need morality? We'll try this set of questions and see if you answer these better than the first set I presented.

Some people (apparently you) think that punishment is awaiting you after death. MANY people do not. Those people are as free to believe what they believe as you are.

Do you think people who are so miserable that they want to commit suicide are really worried about the afterlife? It's their life. If they want to take it, they should be permitted to do so.

Do you think killers are concerned that they might not go to heaven?

I'm religious/spiritual (no need to elaborate any further on my religion or spirituality unless asked) and I have never understood why people believe that religion and morality are exclusive to one another. There are immoral people who are religious and irreligious people who are moral, and vice versa. Even if one were to find out that there would be no consequences in the afterlife (or the nothing after life, as atheists believe), why would anyone assume that the first thing they'd do is wreak havoc or even alter their moral code in the slightest? We should behave in a just and moral manner whether we will or won't face consequences in the afterlife (or lack thereof) for what we do in this life, and anyone who would change their moral code upon finding out that there would be no repercussions for them in their afterlife wouldn't be considered a truly moral person to begin with...they were just playing by the rules because they were afraid of being punished, therefore they'd be selling out on values that they never truly held in their hearts. Regardless of religion or lack thereof, morality and good conduct are choices.

Sorry if this response seems a little disjointed or parts seem unrelated to the OP, I just typed it up quickly on my phone.

I think it's actually quite the opposite. Those that have no belief in judgement feel held accountable by humanity and their own moral compass.

Those that are convinced that any "sin" they commit is a burden on their savior and not on themselves since somebody else (their Jesus) already paid the bill are the ones I most expect to commit atrocities. Look at all who killed, raped, and committed genocide in the name of their god.

Having a god that retroactively took all of the punishment for his believers for anything they may commit is faaaar more dangerous.

No eternal punishment of hell and no consequences for crime after death are two very different things but have one thing in common.....They both lack justice.Even though not in the same degree.Eternal punishment of hell no matter what the crimes committed has zero justice in it and without the slightest whim should be ruled out as just by any sensible person.

No consequences for anything is equally as implausible but not for the same reason or degree. It has a lot to do with how man perceives punishment as either punitive or corrective. There isn't a helluvalot of corrective punishment going on.Many who are incarcerated for crimes are seldom rehabilitated.Punitive punishment hasn't proven to be very effective.

Corrective is the only just punishment. If it doesn't cause change it is punitive.Since this "afterlife" punishment would assume a higher power "judge" that is the only just option and if it has the power to cause correction it can be safely assumed it will work.No correction at all in an "afterlife"( goofy misnomer) would be detrimental to the offender.Their condition would just worsen infinitely and be an injustice by the higher power to them.Again that would have to assume many things that it is impossible to know until experienced.

As has been said those that are going to commit crimes with impunity would do so either way.The doctrine of hell is the most destructive but ironically mostly to the ones who believe in it.Because it is emphatically wrong and in the category of what the scriptures call unforgivable(another misnomer) in this age and the one to come.

Of course afterlife and justice will be a surprise for many that don't believe in hell because they don't believe in God but their is no punishment of hell for that ...only correction and much less severe than for hell believers.I read a little of Tricia's "proofs"..there's not much credibility in them.Trying to prove the unprovable is non sense.
