Can You Survive a Nuclear Blast?

Strange, I was thinking about this very topic today as I drove past Cheyenne Mountain (NORAD). One member of our forum lives essentially at the base of it at Ft. Carson, but I live a little less than 40 miles away. I was contemplating the possibility of survival should something happen.
Of course, in this scenario I was considering a large nuke, now I am curious as to how much effect a "dirty" bomb would have.

We're not talking about a really big nuke for this, right? If I can handle say, a one kiloton tactical warhead, that still counts and I win, right?
