I know very little about military or police forces. Average IQ.
I mostly just looked for camo and whether there was any military-looking things. I've seen movies on the internet and on TV so I was looking for those things to identify soldiers.
If I voted 50/50 I could get the same score easy so... without M1 Tanks or A10's in the background or something like that I really cannot see the difference at this stage.
9/11 and the mass shootings have somewhat militarized the police, I think. Hard to blame them. Would you want to face a mass shooter (wearing body armor) with only your police-standard pistol? So not only can he potentially pierce YOUR body armor, but your pistol might be ineffective against his body armor? I know the semi-automatics available don't pack a military-grade punch, but it's still deadly.edit on 7-9-2013 by jonnywhite because: (no reason given)

SWAT pretending its DEVGRU or DELTA is just adorable.

I got them all correct except for the one where the "cop" has the M60. I'm really suspicious of that image, police get nice weapons, but an M60 is not the type of weapon useful for police activity at all. It's for laying down large volumes of cover fire and spraying the enemy, not something police should EVER be doing.
I don't have a problem with military weapons in the hands of police officers. If they have to face armed people, they should be at least as well armed as the criminals. M16s, MP5s, shotguns, pistols, even some high-caliber sniper rifles are legitimate weapons for a civilian police force to have. An M60 is not. It's akin to police using grenades, it's not something that has ANY legitimate use for a police force.
I've also never once heard of a police department using M60s, I'm really thinking that picture is not a cop, but in fact a member of the military. Maybe they were trying to be clever, and the guy is a cop who joined the military, so technically he would be a cop, but that's not his police weapon.
If anyone can show any proof that any US police departments have access to M60s I'll eat my words, but I would bet a six-pack that is NOT a cop.
And no I'm not just being cranky because I got one wrong
