Falling Ice Chunks

Does anyone have any theories on this? I have been reading more and more about these incidents lately....I have never heard of it happening before the 1990s....Has anyone else?

This link will take you to the Faa's explanation of what "blue ice" is. It sounds reasonable, but there are still doubts.
