"Batteries usually contain harsh chemicals that make them less than environmentally friendly, but a new research project out of the University of Maryland seeks to change that, at least on the small-scale. A team led by professor Hongli Zhu has succeeded in creating a nanoscale rechargeable battery from the most environmentally friendly material there is — wood."

Came across this article and thought it pretty pertinent considering how toxic the chemicals in our everyday batteries are to the environment.

What do you think ATS, will we ever see this technology used in the production of mainstream everyday use batteries?

Seems to show some definite promise as a more environmentally friendly alternative to current tech.

Off to go charge my phone at the nearest current bush.

I wonder what would happen if they found a way to somehow incorporate graphene into the wood fibers.

Storage capacity is what's lacking with these 'wooden batteries' but graphene is currently being researched and has the ability to double the capacity of current lithium batteries. Considering these are both relatively new discoveries it will no doubt be a while before they are used together. But a guy can hope and wonder can't he?
