I have been thinking more and more recently about the fact a majority of people spend their lives trying to get people to agree with them.

Whether this is something simple such as the quality of a particular film, or more important subjects such as politics and religion.

It is in our nature, to want to surround ourselves with people who agree with us. It validates us. It makes us feel comfortable. We do not want to even entertain the fact that we may be wrong.

This particular part of human nature is, in my opinion, our biggest downfall.

If you took away this "want" (Because it is not a need) and everyone had their own opinion, and did not make it their mission to force their beliefs on others, then the world would live very harmoniously.

I absolutely hate the term "sheeple" but I also despise those who openly agree with the majority despite their own personal beliefs.

Religion, of course is a classic example of this, because the alternative of being wrong is..well....hell!

My friend, you can believe that the moon is made of cheese, but dont try and drag me to the astro-cheddar convention. (Theyre all crackers anyway)

We are all entitled to our beliefs, and we are free to express our beliefs to others. However they are under no obligation to agree.

So I guess what i am saying is in reality, If you believe wholeheartedly in what you do, the only person who's validation should matter, is you!

Exactly. It is so aggressive and controlling to make everyone believe what you believe.

What I do however, is offer introspection by asking questions like:

"What if everyone thought or did what you're saying here, what type of world would that create?"

"Is this the type of life you prefer to live? Is this what makes you happy?"

Hopefully that will at least get them to think in terms of being more happy and compassionate but if they don't, then that is also their choice.

I'm of exactly the same train of thought as you.

If you exaggerate peoples beliefs to that of the masses, it does tend to make them think.

I would rather help people understand their thoughts, rather than force mine upon them.

I came to the conclusion a long time ago that what other people think of me is none of my business.

I've been much happier ever since.

Peace

I totally agree OP, I think you hit the nail at the head. I believe most people don't want to entertain the motion of being wrong, and it is our biggest downfall because whatever goes on within will go on on the outside. That which is above is also below, that which is below is also above.

As individuals we can only really help the collective by going into ourselves and transmuting the hidden, shadowy parts of ourselves into the lessons of Love they really are. When we keep on transmuting darkness into light, all our fears will vanish one by one. All the fetters keeping you back will fall, all the chains will be broken.

All negativity stems from fear, so think about a world where everybody looks within and transmutes the chaos into order, the fear into love! Nothing holds anybody back pursuing their own contentment, and no one would even consider stepping over someone else to satisfy their own needs. Rather, we would support all that was loving because love is what we would have within. As above, so below.

I know what you´re saying and in a way I agree. But on much bigger level I have to disagree. You should listen to others, at least a little bit, because it saves you from believing in things that can hurt you in the long run.

There are people here that are socially alienated because of certain beliefs. Maybe they told they friends over and over about how the moon landing was fake or how 9/11 was an inside job until they weren´t their friends anymore.

It is true that you should believe in yourself and not blindly follow the opinion of the majority. But it can´t hurt to do a reality check once in a while.

I think it's a lot more the other way around.

The vast amount of people need and want to feel like they fit into whatever is popular as they wish to be popular.

Hence fashion and trends. Look at how fickle we are as a society where an item of clothing is seen as acceptable one time yet unacceptable and made to be sneered at, at another. Fashion and trends rule society, it's as if any act of real individualism is a sign of weirdness, to be frowned upon.

We like to conform in order to make ourselves feel we are doing right.

And what if you wholeheartedly believe in things like racial segregation, white superiority, ethnocentrism, and that women/Mexicans/African-Americans/homosexuals are lesser humans compared to you? How about if your opinion is that all liberals and Democrats are moochers? Or, maybe you believe that only white, Anglo-Saxon, Protestants should be able to run for political office.

Should you not care what others' think in regards to those beliefs?

I don't really care what others think, but I do listen. I actually try to listen as much as I am able, because everyone is a teacher of one thing or another. The way I understand the word 'care' is that you receive information, and this particular information has an effect on you. If I said that tomorrow I am going to vacuum the apartment, this would probably don't affect that many people. If it doesn't affect them, they are not going to care.

I don't care what other people think, because thought (mine and others) generally are effecting me less and less. I try to understand the energies of the communication and then maybe why that energy is there. The energy itself I do care about, as I care about all living things in a loving matter.

I care what others think. Not because I want to use it to look hide inconfidence. I won't act on other what they think of me. I simply don't care.

I care about what the people I call my friends think. Cause I've been surprised by what I learned, impossible for personal understanding to actually imagine how it even is possible to come up with...

Hiding a relationship, tell me he's a loser, boring and pathetic. I've told her I don't wish any future contact with him.Reason I gave was because I can prevent his behavior to be part of my intimate area of friends. He is not worth my time, it never was.
Still... Why would she won't be honest about it and even lies. She had a relation with him 2 months I even met her.
She also made a another friend and family get as far as mental breakdown and also had a relationship with another guy.

I don't car I decided to cut her off, after she led me down a few times and told lies about it. I did like her and she supported me when I needed it. I simply not want to have any people that act like what her at this point in time at all. Not even as someone to spend time with for only a soda and cookie use.

I learned the extreme parts just now.

Ican't imagine what I wouldn't imagine to act myself if I don't experience the behavior from others I'm left unprotected of these brain vibes of mental folks.

So I care to know and not will end up investing my time and efforts and I get attached to much before I notice, they are insane.

Good enough reason ?
