Giant mosquitoes invade Florida

science.nbcnews.com

One of the most ferocious insects you've ever heard of — it's the size of a quarter and its painful bite has been compared to being knifed — is set to invade Florida this summer.

I wasn't really sure where to put this, and I also did a quick search and didn't find anything. If this is in the wrong section or has already been covered, mods please do whatever is needed. Now, holy crap, these things are supposed to be 20 times the size of a normal mosquito. I'll be hard pressed not to carry hairspary and a lighter to set these things ablaze. They recommended covering up in layers and using a DEET mosquito repellent. Anyone on ATS been bit by these suckers yet? If so, how bad did it hurt? On a good note, as of now they aren't thought to carry harmful diseases.

I saw two fly by carrying a cow.
One said to the other "Where do we this so the big ones don't get it"

I live in Michigan, and I have been seeing some of the largest mosquitoes that I have ever seen in my life. A couple of years back I started seeing two toned orange ladybugs, which were more vicious than their counterparts. Now mosquitoes are changing. Something weird is going on in the insect world.

How strange.....I just finished a book yesterday, it centred on a virus carried by mosquitoes that turned the population into zombies.

Where did this plague start?..................Florida

Have folks actually been stabbed in an attempt to compare?

It's a tough price to pay when you live in paradise.

I wonder if it feels like being stabbed by a small sewing needle. Guys and Gals, we need a contingency plan!

Being stabbed doesnt hurt at the time, so if its like being stabbed, you wont feel any pain

Depends on where you get stabbed.
I believe a stab in the chest brings instant pain.

I hate skeeters. They got some in Alaska that will pin you down and drain all your blood in one gulp.

I am on my way to Florida, from Manitoba, to teach proper mosquito slapping techniques and proper mosquito repellent application methods.

Our mosquitoes are like humming birds!
