Crop mode is fantastic for shooting macro. I have the T2i and love to do this. Hard to keep a stable view though at that magnification.

i am gonna look for a gorilla tripod maybe thats better for this work.

It has to be heavy I tried a Gorrila like one and it still had a lot of shake. Something with a boom and very stable base that folds all the way down is what I see a lot of pros use.
