Five skeletal remains that were found in a remote Arizona corridor are believed to belong to Mexican or Central American victims of a homicide, the International Business Times reported.

...Pima County Chief Medical Examiner Gregory Hess said Tuesday that the bodies appeared to have been beaten or shot to death.
"We are treating it as a likely homicide. However, we don't know how those injuries were inflicted yet, and whether or not those injuries were blunt force injuries that caused the bones to be traumatized or were gunshot injuries," Hess said.

Sounds like human trafficking victims. Guess this happens more often than we know.

Holy cow! UPI still exists? I thought they went to their grave years ago at the hands of AP and Reuters! Strangely, I was just thinking about them the other day. Newspapers used to carry both UPI and AP stories, pretty much in equal quantities. I thought I remembered them being bought out or "subsumed," as it were, by AP. Guess I was wrong.

Anyway: I think you're right that there are a lot of missing people swallowed up by desert. Imagine how many missing people could eventually (at least theoretically) turn up in the desert around Las Vegas alone. Lotsa mobsters, card-counters, and big winners have taken the big dirt-nap during a trip to Vegas....

I looked up how long it would take for a body to decompose in those conditions and I'm assuming they were above ground and accessible to critters. This isn't the greatest reference but it seems viable.

I bet its 5 of the 200+ thousand still missing from Mexico. It's so extremely tragic how these poor souls die. They pay to get over the border in hopes of a better life. The cartels take their money or offer to pay them up to 300.00 to carry a backpack with weapons or guns (what happens if you say no I have no idea but sure they do more than "ask"). It breaks my heart how much suffering is in that country and that these people were so close before being killed. It's how I imagine hell.
