Sorry to lure you into a trap thread, but this thread is a question.




^ Above is one of the pictures from my manga-in-progress, Viator.

Problem is, I've been writing the words in pen.

Now, I know how to put proper print-text onto the pages once I have them on a computer.

I can't just white out all the written text. Its too noticable on the computerized page.

Does anyone know a way I can erase the written text without using white-out?

PLEASE help me. I've finished the first volume of this book and really don't want to start it over.

I considered using the "eraser" in paint, but it's really tedious and time consuming, and it looks terrible.

Anyone? Please?

The last picture is a picture of a place called The Blue Dragon Casino, the place where my gangsters meet with their Triad friends.

All these pictures are actually a lot smaller, so sorry for crap quality.

In fact, you can see the streak of white-out in the middle of the casino building.

So... yeah.

If I understand your question? It's a simple solution. Bring the image into Photoshop and use the Patch or Healing tool. Both will sample an area near the text and then overwrite what you tell it to with the tool, using the color/texture/background of the sampled area. It works well enough to edit faces in high res photographs to the point of adding or taking off everything from birthmarks to blemishes.

I understand not everyone owns Photoshop, but if you haven't used it on that computer before? Download the 30 day free trial and go for it. Any questions? Youtube is overflowing with 3-5 minute vids to show you step by step how to do it.

If I had the images? I'd say it'd take just a few minutes....maybe a half hour because I am a real perfectionist about that sort of thing, and it would be as if nothing had ever been there.

EDIT - WOW! You drew this stuff?!? Very cool! You should write / create a story about ATS.

I can't offer any technical help, but for the record? You're extremely talented. I hope you continue to pursue this, and I can one day claim I knew your anonymous self "way back when."

Are you scanning these into computer? Just use the stamp tool or eraser tool or copy over it?

Also... it occurred to me that when uploading pictures with a scanner, I think you can change the resolution and make it brighter, making white-out a lot less visible.

I will try photoshop too. Does it cost money?

Do what Wrabbit says and use the Photoshop tools he recommends. They work out great for this kind of thing. Also, I'm glad to see more of your manga art! I knew you wrote this thread before I even checked.

Well, Photoshop and the entire Master Suite (Illustrator and a bunch of other software) will run free for 30 days. Then you have to buy it and it's not like it used to be. It's running on a subscription based system now. $50 a month for non-student on the full suite...BUT....here is where someone like you may love the new system. If all you need or want is ONE program from the Adobe suite, the new pricing structure runs $10/program per month if that's all you want out of it.

I think they're betting most people will play with and fall in love with the whole set and never settle with just one. Several to interact and work together for graphics work anyway. Someone like me, with what I was doing? Well.. Illustrator to do the vector graphics just set the stage to move into After Effects for the animation and Photoshop did what Illustrator couldn't/wouldn't do as well or worked photographs like nothing else.

You though? Sounds like you'll just want the 30 day freebie and then the single program for photoshop, if you find it's to your liking after the trial.

Photoshop....no it doesn't cost $. Goto kickasstorrents.com or piratebay.com.....it's free.

Is any of your work like these? I'm assuming you're a manga fan do you have any suggestions for what else I should read,I really like the comedy/action.

I can't help you, but looks like you got some grade A help S&F for the artwork.

Hmm I think manga is quite boring, only good storylines make it fun to watch. Cartoon drawers should create their own style, not copy someone elses.

But dont let my opinion put you down, youre quite good at it. Its just a little unoriginal.

The anime art style is very general, there are lots of different kinds of anime/manga styles. I chose to make my own anime style with combinations of my favorite styles, I didn't copy anyone else's.

Besides, the story makes it stellar.

I respect your opinion, but compared to a lot of American styles (which in my opinion are ugly and unrealistic) and a lot of other manga styles (which contain improperly preportioned people, round noses and fish lips, yuck), my art style is good. Damn good enough.

To everyone else, thanks for the advice and feedback, its much appreciated. I completed two of my exams, and I have two more to do tomorrow, then I won't have school work getting in the way of my ATS time... although I'm supposed to get a job at the movies soon. But at least THAT work will get me paid.

PS costs money but Paint.NET and a few others are free.

As far as costs goes, old software versions sometimes have their merits. Do an internet search for "CS2 Mistake". Decide where to go from there. You'll likely want to find the updates for that software version in the same way, otherwise it's a bit buggy. (And occasionally crashy.) Although you can get it from the official site, it seems to be in that grey area of software depending on who you ask and it's unsupported regardless.

Also keep in mind the old version doesn't have some of the "smart" select and copy tools of the latest and greatest which may be better for some of the stuff you'd want to do. (Regular healing brush can still show obvious patterns vs. typical paper grain.) The most recent GIMP version also has the eqivalent of smart copy/paste however, but the UI takes a bit more effort to get used to.

Anyhow with modern media, it's probably better to ink and color in software. Mostly because of editability, etc. I also find less mess and materials and ctrl-Z are beneficial. However I find Illustrator better for inking the line art (more controls over line shaping and brush stroke shapes there), and then do most of the rest in Photoshop. You can get it real clean and sharp looking that way. (And if you really like the on-paper look for some reason, you could scan some blank paper and put your art on a multiply layer on top of that.)

The artwork is nice btw. I've been playing around with similar, getting permission and cleaning up and digitally inking characters by other artists on a fairly well known artists' website. Odds are, you may be able to find me over there if you're also on that site.
