I am more than willing to just stop with it.

To me this is another example of the complexities involved and our overly simplified ideas of gender. Hormone production and regulation in the human body is extremely complex and we have yet to fully understand the implications and the insistence that we come in two genders and two genders only will have to be acknowledged.

I would also like to add that the idea that we should lie to keep this facade in tact is very telling and sad really. Are we really so fragile that we cannot allow ourselves to face the truth of how wonderfully complex we really are ?

As far as I know, every fetus starts out as a "female" and develops into a male if male hormones are present.

A penis is a further developed clitoris, or a clitoris is an underdeveloped penis depending how you look at it.

This is true when you have what most would consider a typical pregnancy. There are however so many variables that to consider gender a two sided coin is just not accurate. I'm not saying you personally feel this way, I was pointing out that gender identification is not as simple as some would like to think and that in many cases, it is definitely not all in ones head.

This womans micropenis disorder due to her exvessive amounts of testosterone and faulty chromosomes both were.contriburing factors that led this woman to believe that she was a man. This is actually what creates most of these issues in the first place, because often when people find out they're not 66.

In the past it has been unfortunately common for doctors to assume that whatever was the most straight forward way to 'hide' a person's gender abnormality was the 'correct' gender of that person. It's obviously not just up to the doctor, but for a concerned parent it can seem too confusing or difficult for a child to deal with it and there is that nice big rug to sweep it under.

So perhaps you find out when you're 10 to 13 or worse, much later. Perhaps even your parents just 'forget'.

The added up result is that as a society we have a standard reaction to hide this type of thing. I mean it might be quite useful for other persons to know, especially teachers, that a person is a little different. That their appearance may not match their interests. It might even be a useful thing for a date to know without having to approach the topic like you might be ruining their entire week.

Women with CAH for example have patterns of boyish behaviors and a lack of interest in sex often (generalizing) yet when these things are brought up persons say ... oh it's none of our business! Why are you confusing our children?!

It's not the children that are confused. At least, they weren't until people start telling them to behave like boys or girls instead of like themselves. Intersexed persons deserve to know who they are, and it can really help the persons around when it's not treated like some indiana jones boulder trap of a topic.

Side note: to the person asking / discussing if the person in the article would or wouldn't have developed breasts ... gynomastia (spelling?) is a thing that can happen to fertile physically developed men nevermind just intersexed persons.

I have no such agenda here. Are you insinuating that this woman chose to feel like a man when she must have known full well that she was a she. I am genuinely not sure how you are missing my point so completely and still seem to insist on thinking that gender identification is a matter of personal choice and "unnatural" as you put it, when it is obvious that the human body is far more complex than some would like to think.

My opinion is this woman is still a man. If he grew up all his life and felt he was a man inside then that's what he is, regardless of what the tests say.

How many woman have had gender-reassignment surgeries and DIDN'T have a micro-penis or DIDN'T have increased testosterone that made them LOOK like a man?

It's important what this "woman" feels inside, not what they look like or the tests say.

It's kind of like gener-identity disorder. The person is a male on the outside but feels on the inside that they're a woman. Some of them will get those surgeries to make the "transition".

Homosexuals have characteristics in their brain that's like the opposite sex. So a gay man has some things in his brain that resemble a heterosexual woman. Does that mean he wants to change his body to be a woman? How many gay men have wanted to do gender-reassignment surgery?

Heteresoexual men have several times more testosterone than even the most manly lesbians. I'd like to know how much testosterone this "woman" has by comparison.

well at least nearly everyone that visited this thread now knows what a micro penis looks like after googling it.
