The 500-acre Tres Lagunas Fire continues to burn 10 miles north of Pecos, N.M., and fire officials say it’s still very active.
The fire is near Tres Lagunas and is burning actively on both sides of Highway 63. Residents along the highway and north of Macho Creek have been asked to evacuate, and Highway 63 remains closed.
The fire, started by a downed power line amid heavy winds, was shooting huge flames and giant plumes of smoke into the air about a mile west of Tres Lagunas, an upscale community of cabins and vacation homes along N.M. 63 and the Pecos River.
