Two suspected Islamic militants killed in Ingushetia attack

The Russian National Anti-terrorist Committee (NAK) announced it killed two allies of Islamist Chechen militant Doku Umarov in the Republic of Ingushetia on Tuesday. Ingushetia is a republic in the North Caucasus region with a predominantly Sunni Muslim population and a significant minority of ethnic Chechen citizens.

According to police, Dhamaleil Mutaliyev and Alikhan Ozdoev died in a shootout during the special operation. The counter-terrorist operation began after it became known a group of suspected militants took refuge in a house located in a village near Nazran, Ingushetia's largest city.

The Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation (FSB) considers Mutaliyev the leader of a militant group operating in the North Caucasian region. The FSB alleges him of organising terrorist attacks in August 2010 at a market in Vladikavkaz and at a police post near Chermen in September 2012.

During the operation a woman and child left the house after negotiations.
