I know it's really old but, I'm still puzzled about the post which I created in the Education&Media forum-of how it got locked. I was just stating that I watched a campaign commercial of an add for Bill Clinton/Al Gore '92. I don't understand what made it get locked, besides all I said was that I noticed that it contained subliminal messaging, isn't this sites motto "deny ignorance?"

Did you check your U2U box?

Sometimes they are moved but other times a Mod will have an abuse of power issue and lock the thread even when it has a differnet spin then a similar thread.

Post a link to it so we can tell you. Use the complaint feature for a post like this.

Hi Netchicken,

Where is the complaint feature?

I want to make a few complaints about mods that locked my global posting during the halloween hoax, warnings for excessive quoting when there was none and threads being locked.

Thanks

I didn't get a U2U explaining it.

Just click on the complaint button at the top of the page. It's up there with the MyATS, and Search buttons.

Mods are people to you know. And occasionally Mods make mistakes (please don't punish me for saying that, just kidding). There have been a lot of posts lately, so I'm sure the Mods had lot's to do. I've rarely seen a Mod abuse his/her power, it's usually just a mistake, or their opinion.

Are you talking about the complaints button spelled 'c o m m e n t s' by any chance?

Correct. It actually does say "Comments". I forgot what it actually said. It's usually used for complaining.

I don't know why the thread was locked, but I will tell you this. If you could see the information, it wasn't subliminal and since the scandal of the fifties when some movie houses spliced in pictures of refreshments in an effort to boost concession sales, no study has been able to prove that this sort of subliminal advertising has any effect on the viewer, at all.

I beg to differ with you grady. I am familiar with the study you are citing but to suggest that no study has shown any effect since then is patently misleading. There is an entire industry that has developed around this practice, subliminal tapes and software, subliminal weight loss programs, self hypnosis, etc. All of these that I have looked into cite research statistics from more recent studies than the one you are refering to.

One is auto-generated any time we move, close, etc. a thread. In it, it will tell you the name of the mod to ask (the one who closed it, etc.). U2U that mod, and they (and only they) will know WHY they locked it. It's usually common practice to either U2U you additionally with an explaination, or as I prefer, to make a post on the thread explaining it, before locking, but as one mentioned, we are people too, and sometimes make mistakes. *looks around to make sure none of the others are watching*

I'll U2U after looking into it, as far as the posting ban, but I can't believe you wouldn't have gotten a U2U on that...As for the others, I'd need to know the threads to check into that for you. Locking this thread now, as I believe the original questions have all been answered, if any feel differently, please U2U me. Thanks all.

Unlocked for a sec to point out that auto u2u's are not sent for closing of threads, just for moving/trashing. Usually a mod will post in the thread before locking it though, so the best bet is usually to u2u whichever mod posted last in the thread. Or as someone mentioned to use the comments form to ask whats up if its not clear.

As far as the thread you were asking about, not sure why it was locked, unlocked for now.
