I am sorry. It sounds like she had major guilt and tried to make it up that way.

That was very brave to tell that story. I commend you.

Thank you,GB,yes even as a child,i figured-Xmas and B-days were to make up for all the other days.Sounds like there's quite some trauma attached to Santa for some members here,i felt sorry for you for your experience too.Bless you,i wish you a goodgood day:-)

Oh I have a crazy memory of Santa that's just came back to me.

I grew up in an part of NI that had a lot of surveillance activity; in the country-side the chinooks landed and flew low and this rattled through our house occasionally.

My mum I think it was, told us that this was Santa; flying over checking that we were asleep. I remember my sister and I diving under the covers and pretending to snore each time one flew past. think I fell for this even at the height of summer!

Didn't want to mess with Santa, especially in a chinook!!

we were too poor to believe in santa or actually we didnt even know about any
these "us holidays"
. Considering our family was from the US. All my family
cared about was a roof over our head and food on the table. I dont have any
complaints, glad we are all healthy, still are.

OP, when are you going to tell us what this has to do with the paranormal?
edit on 5/5/2013 by sled735 because: add comment

For few days beforei posted this, i had an vague idea of how this all could be put in paranormal studies.
i have tried to make a connection between memories (i would make few threads about different beliefs)
and how we or at least some of us lost/or gave up
or how they made us to give up on the belief in miracles (which are real when you believe in them).

But then i realised it was their explanation to me on how it happened. so i need to be carefull on wording this
because it could make a self fullfilling prophecy.

Like make someone believe in something, then drop it. and the global belief is dropping too. And at the end
you get a fully material oriented people.
Sadly im not sure who invented this. Maybe its a natural way for the parents caring for their childrens and telling
them not to cry that all of the "imaginary" friends and other miracles arent true.
Just to stop them worrying and thinking about it. But for me it looks like it destroys the natural connection with
the spiritual world.

I hope someone do understand what im trying to tell. because for me this looks logical now.

Looks like this thread turned into wonderfull memory sharing experience.
Thanks to everyone who shared their stories.

ofc continue to write if you havent done it yet !

Why stop?

I still believe in Santa Claus, or at least, the magic he is made from.

How else do you explain a time of year where everyone strives hard to be the person they WANT to be, vs. the person they are?

A time when people strive to make time for family, even if separated by miles and miles.

No, Santa is alive and well, even in this cynical, high-tech world of ours. His methods may have changed, but the magic remains as long as we wish it to.

Don't give up magic. Cling to it, and don't let it go without a fight.

I remember as a child, not sure of age, that I believed that if my parents found out I doubted Santa, I would not get any presents.
I told my younger brother to make my mom believe that he believed in Santa.

On a side note, why does spell check want me to capitalize "Santa" is he is not real?

i have a different opinion on this:

do not fight, fighting will get you more in the opposite direction.

instead stop, stay calm, forgive, laugh, wait and see what will happen: and it will happen like you expected it !
maybe it will take 2~3 days, or even a week, but it will be so.
