I have kept up with the Fukushima issue from day one because I live here in Japan. The Japanese government has been turning up the heat on the pro-nuclear power side of things. PM Abe is hardcore pro-profit and not so much pro-people. While the Japanese government has said that once the `new` safety standards for NPP`s come out in July, any plant which passes inspection could be restarted starting in September.

Well, French company Areva is not playing political games like PM Abe`s government loves to do. While J-gov dances around the agenda to restart nuclear power plants, Areva has let the cat out of the bag on the real goal.

Areva say six reactors to be restarted by the end of 2013

im not sure that these companies realize this.. but... if everyone is dead from radiation they can't make any money...

when are humans going to learn that nuclear power is to unsafe to use, its going to be the death of all of us sooner or later.

Too late on not having a nuclear Asia. There has been nuclear power and nuclear weapons in Asia for decades. I say there must not be a nuclear west. In fact, how about a non-nuclear world.

One question. One word.

WHY ?

This is the reason I like ATS. We ask why.

Well...let`s look at why.

The American Empire is not what it used to be. There have been cuts in the military which has made J-gov worry that it`s nationalist stance and distaste for it`s Asian neighbors might finally become a problem. Also, Japan is on a money grab recently. The J-gov wants to cash in on the growing power vacuum in Asia.

Sadly, having nuke technology means power in the world. Giving up nukes means Japan will have to finally deal with all the bad blood it has brewed with it`s Asian neighbors. China and several other Asian nations now have nuke weapons and nuke technology. All Japan has is nuke NPP`s which is enough to prevent an attack because any attack on Japan means huge nuclear meltdowns which would make Fukushima look like a picnic in the park.

I need time to put in more solid researched ideas. Yet, this is how I see it from following the entire situation from day one. You have inspired me to attempt to dig up all the research I have had to do in order to follow this very complex situation.
