NewSpeak ~ DoubleSpeak Used In MSM To Control Us

Been thinking about this for awhile, then this term just came in to existence during the manhunt for the Boston Bombers:

Shelter In Place. This is such an obvious way to make MARTIAL LAW sound inviting I couldn't resist creating this thread.

First, a little history...

"NewSpeak" refers to George Orwell's 1984....he never used the term "DoubleSpeak", but it's the same thing. It's a way for an oppresive Government to control you by manipulating words...and then repeating them over and over again. "Political Correctness" is an offshoot of this idea.

Some examples:

* Revenue Enhancement = TAXES

* Entitlements = WELFARE

* Unmanned Aerial Vehicle = DRONE

* Kinetic Military Action = WAR STRIKE

* Racism = PROFILING (Israel uses profiling quite effectively to prevent terrorist attacks)

* Domestic Terrorist = AMERICAN PATRIOT

* Servicing The Target = BOMBING

* Peace = WAR

* Nobel Peace Prize = LICENSE TO BOMB COUNTRIES

* Enhanced Interrogation = TORTURE

* Ethnic Cleansing = GENOCIDE

* Pre-Emptive Strike = UNPROVOKED ATTACK

* Near Miss = NEAR HIT

* Detainee = PRISONER OF WAR

* Collateral Damage = INNOCENT BYSTANDERS KILLED IN WAR

* AlQueda = MUJAHIDEEN (remember those wonderful freedom fighters we supported against the awful Soviets)

* Freedom Fighters = TERRORISTS FURTHERING AMERICAN AGENDAS

* Intelligence = SPYING

* Asset = FOREIGN SPY

* Wet Team = ASSASSINATION TEAM

* Shock And Awe = MASSIVE BOMBING

* Spin = LIE

* Transfer Tubes = BODY BAGS

* Security Contractors = EXPENDABLE MERCENARY TROOPS

* Relocation = FORCED ABDUCTION

* Liberate = INVADE

* Refugees = POOR MINORITIES WITH NOWHERE TO GO

A few Corporate examples:

* Death Tax = ESTATE TAX

* Consumer = CITIZEN

* Biosolid = SEWAGE

* Trickle-Down = DRIBBLE-DOWN

* Downsizing = LAYOFFS / FIRING PEOPLE

* Meaningful Downturn = RECESSION



These are just some examples, please feel free to add some to this thread.

Recognize when and why MSM keeps feeding you these terms, it's all part of the Slow Kill.

Do not be afraid to call a spade a spade, because, heck, that's what it is!

Its insane how people all around us soak up everything they see on television. Whats worse, is complacency. When the Boston bombing was going on, my wife was watching some housewives crap, and I wanted to see if there were any new developments, she was pissed because I was changing her show, and said "well cant you just record the news on the dvr and watch it later?" I replied "thats....kind of not the point, im concerned and I want to know whats going on"

WTF is wrong with people. The doublespeek on the msm is rediculous, especially msnbc, and Piers Morgan just vomits it out all day.

If anything, the above is what the American government want you to believe because it allows them to bracket large groups of people under one heading.

Mujahideen is more of a descriptor rather than a terrorist or individual organization and it's an important distinction to make if we're to understand people around the world.

Some of the terms are indeed 'spin' and it's quite deliberate from the lowest up. Humans respond for better or worse to 'cleaner' terms, and we are ourselves to blame for the majority of it. Though some of it certainly arose from military propaganda and training but it's as old as the world itself.

Here are a few that I thought up:

For your safety - "For our safety"
Too big to fail - "Give us too much money to fail"
Unemployment is decreasing - "More workers have left the workforce"
Affordable Health Care - "Mandatory Health Care"
Corporate Subsidy - "Corporate Welfare"

I love this one, it could be Clyde the janitors helper a page, a senator, or just a hunch that the talking head has, and each of those possible sources don't need vetted, confirmed or revealed,
all they need is REPEATED, (please repeat the phrase again and again etc.....).

Our "economy" has nothing economic about it at all, in fact is relies on more spending, more waste, more production of whatever can be sold for profit... it is the opposite of what is suppose to mean, in my opinion anyway.

If not "control us" in the direct sense, certainly to shape our opinions and lead us in certain directions or to make certain conclusions. To influence our emotions and make us more pliable.

I don't think I need to point out that the above statement applies to ALL of us here at ATS

Well, Armies no longer send Soldiers abroad, they send "Peacekeepers" instead. Wars are downsized to "Conflicts". And the time you know to run for the hills isn't so much a War, or Conflict, it's a "Peace Process". That gets really ugly. A recession is now a "Credit crunch" or a "Fiscal cliff", Spies are "Cultural attaches", Civilians killed in conflicts are "Collateral damage", Concentration camps are "Detention centres", Political indoctrination is "Social realignment", Puritans are called "Fundamentalists", and any advanced study of religion (esp Islam) is "Radicalisation". Resistance fighters are now "Insurgents", and the killing of enemy combatants is "neutralisation".
The covert propping up of foriegn Governments is called an "Aid package". Demanding protection money is "Taxation", Usury is now a "Payment plan", There must be loads more though.

Greetings my friend, it appears you yourself are not immune in the art of "NewSpeak".

You are leading the good folk of ATS into believing the term shelter in place is associated with martial law, when this is not the case, it is in fact an emergency procedure for people to take shelter in a readily accessible location originally coined for accidental or deliberate chemical spills.

Wikipedia lists the earliest incident of a shelter in place warning as being 28th February 1997 during the North Hollywood shoot out, which along with the Boston man hunt are the only ones listed that are not related to gas or chemicals spills/leaks.
