Since 9/11 the United States spent over $700 billion on national security but as the Boston tragedy showed the money went to nothing, American lawyer Jesselyn Radack told RT.

We have every terrorist organization in earth trying to hit us and all they have managed to do in the last 12 years a minor attack. That would be like a 99% on a test and getting an F-. Not only has it been a success it has been an incredible success.

A lot of domestic security is based on protecting the infrastructure and enhancing our capability to respond to and recover from disasters. It's not about catching every little guy who rigs up a bomb in his basement before he detonates it. You can't do that, not without a police state. Nor is it about maintaining 24/7 surveillance on every single person who has ever come up on the FBI's radar. Again, police state. It's about accepting the fact that certain things will happen, then taking steps to mitigate those things and recover from them. The reaction and recovery in Boston, by most accounts, were excellent. In the olden days of domestic terrorism, guys like Eric Rudolph could carry on extended campaigns. The Tsarnaev brothers were caught within days. Maybe they were just chumps, but maybe we're getting a little better at this kind of thing.

RT is a Russian source, and Russians historically have a very different idea of what constitutes proper domestic security.

I agree, it has been a great "success". The first amendment is now restricted to free speech zones. The second amendment is under furious assault. The fourth amendment has been completely shredded as personal privacy has given way to warrant-less wire tapping and the groping of our most private parts. Groping which, done by anybody else would be classified as sexual assault and a felony. The 5th amendment is basically gone. The 6th amendment? Don't make me laugh, public trials are now replaced by secret tribunals if the president doesn't just kill you outright. The 8th amendment? We have waterboarding and headbagging again if they just don't kill you with a drone. The 9th amendment is ignored with such regularity that is may as well not exist. And the 10th amendment has been completely eviscerated. Success? Yeah on every count. The federal government has been hugely successful at raping the people of this nation.
