The Perfect World.

I'm sort of new so if this is in the wrong section please forgive me, philosophy was just about the closest thing I could get to what I planned on posting.

Let me start by saying that it is in my opinion that a perfect world would be impossible to achieve nowadays solely based on the fact that people desire all the wrong things. Control over money as well as power and revenge, instead of the concern for others, working together as a whole, and retribution for those who've done wrong. It is my belief that we need to have nothing but compassion and love towards one another. I hear politicians TALKING about a greater good, in my head a greater good means that because Bob washed his hands, put on a hair net, and made Joe a meal with the best of intentions, if Bob's son ever needs a doctor he can go see Joe because he's contributing towards the greater good, even if that is just cooking him a meal every Thursday night because he works late. Bob isn't doing what he does for the minimum wage he'd probably be earning in today's society but for other people because we need cooks and for himself because he enjoys cooking. Bob and Joe could be a combination of any two occupations, the point is that we need people to do everything and imagine if the reason people worked was not for money but because they could get what they needed regardless of what it was, dentist work, healthcare, protection, it's endless. It goes both ways too, Joe's a doctor and Matt comes in with complaints of chest pains that were simply linked to stress because of things going on at home. Two days later Joe's toilet and pipe is backed up so he calls Matt who comes over without hesitation and fixes it because he's a plumber just like his dad in a long line of plumbers, his next stop? Joe's restaurant that he just happened to have a meal at a few nights ago. I could go much further into detail and will if people wish it but I'd like to see peoples initial reaction to this short bit first. I hope this short little spiel makes sense to someone because it all just flowed out through my mind and onto my keyboard.

you are describing time based economy? ; 1 hour of my time is 1 hour of your time.. I think its being used in some small eco villages in greece and/ or spain.. cant find the youtube link yet...

not even a time based economy but i guess you could look at it that way if you wish.... but more along the lines of a bunch of people doing jobs that they either like to do or know need to be done and in return having the security of knowing if they need something that requires another human being that the person will do it because that person also may need something from somebody else, so on and so on.

You are describing socialism. It sounds good, but in reality, it doesn't work. Theres no motivation to progress.

we do this in my hometown, they do it in the u.s. too, it's spreading fast =)

The motivation should be to further our civilization and the happiness of our people. It's not that there's no motivation, it's that most people don't have any.

You should read about what a "Just City" is, written by Plato in his famous book, The Repubulic.

It contains many ideas, about how everyone will become happy if they truly have justice and the people know their specializations. Although its doubtful we can ever attain such a "city/state" many scholars use parts of his writing as suggestions for things we can change in our societies today.

I think that much like everything else it's being made harder then it actually is due to corrupt, and selfish individuals who are in power. If someone in power is making political decisions to benefit themselves instead of the people it's going to affect millions and that's blatantly obvious for anyone with half a brain.

Well, there are many communes around the world that work in this exact manner - everyone does their part to keep the community running smoothly.

Unfortunately, this is impossible on a global scale at this point in time. Humans are still too small-minded, blinded by the hate brought on by religion and politics and money and envy and lust.

So, I agree that you have a good idea for a "perfect world" - it would be fantastic if everyone realized that we are all in this together and that we can all progress if we help each other. But, in reality, money makes the world go 'round. It can't happen unless power and money are completely worthless.

You can do your part in making this perfect world, though. Do what you can for the people around you. Your kindness will spread in ways you could never imagine.
