Canada-US Anti-Missile System on the Horizon

The Harper government is reportedly considering collaborating with the US in the construction of a North American anti-ballistic missile system. The Pentagon has announced its intention to establish 14 new missile interceptors in Alaska by 2017 and is seemingly looking to Canada for assistance.

Pro-war Canadian journalists and politicians claim that Iran and the DPRK intend to attack Canada which, in their view, justifies Canada collaborating with the US on an anti-missile shield. However, critics note that there is actually no evidence that such countries want to attack Canada.

Previous Canadian leaders have refused to cave into pressure from the US to establish a US-Canada anti-ballistic missile system. However critics note that the Harper government has demonstrated a willingness to allow Canada's tax money and military to be used by foreign states like the US and Israel to advance their geopolitical goals, something which analysts say often runs contrary to Canadian national interests.

Critics say that anti-missile systems have a similar logic to drones in that they allow Western politicians to adopt murderous foreign policies abroad with little loss of life of their domestic citizenries. If threats of retaliation from those attacked by Western imperialist states are nullified, by anti-missile systems then imperialist aggressors such as the US and Israel will be able to attack foreign countries more freely, a prospect that human rights activists find exceedingly troubling.

I think there is a good chance that Tesla invented the perfect anti-missile system a long time ago and that it exists today... except that it pays too well to certain quarters to keep that quiet and build those anti-missile missiles based on old technology

Wait, Canada being attacked? Who would attack Canada?

I put Canadian flag patches on my backpacks when I travel overseas so I'm not hassled.

I don't remember the briefing. The last time I was in Canada all I remember were the awesome strip clubs and to many rounds of Crown.

Why? Why? Why?. There is absolutely no reason for the U.S. to defend Canada. Canadians can defend themselves. There is nothing that Canada has, oh wait, sorry. I forgot Canada has oil.

Great, just great. Now Canada will have an even bigger bullseye on it when those Russian nukes come flying in. Americans need to wake up and make the U.S. put legal guarantees that it will not be used against Russia or else they've already said they'll take it down their own way. Canada needs to stop being mini-America and let them ruin themselves.

Does anyone actually believe that Canada doesn't already host missile defence sites?
I'd say good ol Canuckistan is already hosting from coast to coast!

Well I'm on the east coast and have been for 24 years and I've never seen anything that indicates we have that sort of set-up. Doubtful, we don't really need a shield.

You know, if you ask me...

The more Harper and his cronies ruin this country, the more Canadians are getting upset. I'm gonna wager that if stuff like this or the pipeline projects get approval, you're going to see some very aggressive home grown terrorism.

Canadians are getting angry.
