Here in the UK, Margaret Thatcher privatised our water supply back in the 80's along with a whole host of other government run services, we've
been paying for water ever since.
So water was free before Thatcher. I never knew that.
Yes it was run by the government as a free service.
My bills are around £400 a year for a two bedroomed bungalow.
So for the price of a pint and a half of lager a week, you have limitless quantities of safe water, and safe disposal of all waste water. Seems like
good (and probably excellent) value to me.
Actually it works out more than a pint and a half of larger a week (up north anyway), I don't drink because of the medication I have to take that
would completely destroy my liver, but I still know the cost from buying drinks for family members on a Sunday lunch out. It costs a set amount a week
for council tenants, but those on a water meter pay roughly 2-4 times that amount depending on the size of the family, even if those family's are on
low incomes. As I am on a water meter I do not get a limitless supply of water, I have to be extremely mindful of the amount I use, including using
water butts to use the hose etc. We even get charged an extra £30-40 a quarter for rainfall that falls on our property (anything for an extra few
billion profit per year).
Makes me sick paying for something that is a basic human right.
How do you feel about having to pay for the food on your plate or the roof over your head?
To be honest, paying for a roof over your head and food on the table is not the problem. The problem is greedy corporations that charge far too much
for water, gas and electricity, they are the main problem to poor and working class households, that have very little left for food etc once they have
paid the energy and water bills especially when they keep rising the costs more than triple the percentage of the national minimum wage rises. For
someone that is disabled with a disabled child and an ill husband who cares for us can barely get by, then THAT becomes my problem!
after they've finished destroying our NHS, our welfare state system
Well they're not doing a very good job of that, then, are they?
Yes they are not doing a very good job and if your working class and cannot afford private health care you can be left waiting up to 3 months to see a
doctor at a practice that has been taken over by a private corporation such as Virgin (yes they have actually been buying up medical practices along
with a couple of others and are not doing a very good job as seen on dispatches) Cameron promised not to touch the NHS yet he has, selling off and
privatising parts of it he can get away with. Our welfare state has been turned up side down since the Tory's got in again and ATOS (a private company
that handles the ESA claims) have been linked and therefore responsible for approximately 43 deaths a month of ill and disabled people they have
refused ESA to, due to the medical questions being set up to contradict and deny access (which has been proven by staff coming forward out of guilt).
The media portray benefit fraud as this huge problem, yet the statistics are only 1% of claims in the UK are actually fraudulent, this is why people
in wheelchairs have been attacked recently which is completely down the the media spin doctors exaggerating benefit fraud way out of it's 1%
proportion and deliberately targeting disabled people as the problem, mainly because the majority of disabled people cannot defend themselves. What
they don't tell you is that so many billion per year in benefits are paid to overseas claimant's. How I see it is if you leave the UK you should
forfeit your right to claim, yet they still pay people in European countries. Where is the sense and reason in that?
So if you still have a problem with what I had to say then that is your prerogative, but I stand by what I say from years of experience, working (with
an upper band working class wage) and in the last few years having no choice to claim disability as I am too ill to work which is verified by
specialists. I see our country being ripped apart every time the Tory's get in power, their goal always seems to be protecting the aristocracy and
what they can cut or sell off to line their pockets further.
