Why can't we laugh?

Why can't we make jokes in threads, unoffensive, topical jokes. They get deleted. Regardless of how dire a situation is, everyone needs relief. Seriously mods, please tell me why everything has to be so serious all the time. It's kind of getting old.

It derails the discussion.

Especially in larger threads, it's hard enough to keep people on track.
One person makes, a joke, it gets a response and then before you know it
the entire thread is off topic and a waste.

If your in a thread thats reaching 200 pages, better expect the mods to be strict.

I'm not trying to gripe, but I don't think that that thread is in any danger of getting off topic because of one liners. You want to delete off topic posts, delete the YOU MISQUOTED ME, NO I DIDN'T crap.
