Cleveland Rocks!

OK, folks...this is your chance to play tourist guide. Me an' the Missus are heading on a road trip this summer that will include a production of Tommy at Stratford, an archaeological museum or two...and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland. So what else is there in the Cleveland area that would qualify as a "must-do" for a couple of reasonably hip oldsters? I'm counting on y'all to help out.

Go see the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and get the hell out of there.

Just kind of kidding as I only go downtown rarely and I really dislike that area. If you gamble, be careful around the Horseshoe casino as local thugs take pics with their cell phones of winners and text them to their buds outside who are waiting when you leave.

Stay away from the East side as well. High crime rate that is steadily creeping west. Stay aware of your surrounds at all times.

Just a couple of blocks from the R&RHF is the USS Cod. Which is a WW2 sub you can go through. If the weather is warm, Put-in Bay can be fun as well. The Natural museum of history isn’t too bad, but it is on the edge of the bad part of town. Be careful at night if you go.

There are quite a few really good restaurants in the Cleveland area, though they can be pricy.

I find a lot of cool events and tours/things in the surrounding communities. Google them as the cities usually have a events calender which would be helpful during your time in Ohio.

Downtown is safe .. casino is safe also .. ceder point (if its open for the season) is a good place to visit it has some of the worlds best roller coasters. Its like 30 min away from cleveland
Or check out a baseball game
or lolly the trolley .. its a tour bus
Or check out the christmas carol house from the movie
Or go to the iron chefs restaurant. Michal Simmons. Its called lolitas get the asparagus appetizer
or football hall of fame in canton .. thats 30 min away also
Or horse racing .. an place a few bet
or play house square area has a lot of plays an such .. blue man group was just here a little while back
Or the science museum. Its next to the rock hall
Or shop at tower city. Same area as the casino .. its attached
or go to a basketball game
Or a comedy club
Or if u feel adventurous go to hell town ... its a creepy abandoned town. With a spooky church
Or the zoo. We have a indoor rainforest
Or go clubbing. last call is at 2:30 around here

Blossom Music Center has all sorts of music, especially the Cleveland Symphony Orchestra, which is often said to be one of the top 5 orchestras in the world, really!

Michael Symon is an Iron Chef and has a lot of restaurants around.

Hey Johnny. TDawg is right about what he mentioned in his post. Stay far away from the East Side, you don't want to get caught there. In fact East Cleveland was just ranked one of the most dangerous cities in America.

Definitely head farther west and take the ferry to Put-In-Bay. With all the bars it's where livers go to die. Still a good time if you're not a drinker.

And if you like amusement parks then you have to get yourselves to Cedar Point. Voted the best amusement park on the planet.

Rock Hall is perfect. Next door is a beautiful building, the Great Lakes Science Center -- not exactly a "hip" thing but it is a nice place downtown. There's a small but nice new aquarium near downtown in what is called The Flats, in a beautifully restored building by the river.

Cleveland has great museums - check out University Circle, which you can get to via direct bus ride from downtown, in maybe 10 minutes or so. Art museum is lovely.

Look ahead for a show at Blossom and maybe there will be a fun rockin' show in town that day when you are going - buy a lawn ticket and bring a blanket.

The zoo is grand as it the indoor "rainforest" -- and it's in Cleveland proper -- if you like that sort of stuff. Maybe catch an Indians baseball game? Ride the crazy coasters at Cedar Point Amusement Park - about an hour west of Cleveland. There are trolley rides and boat rides...some interesting restaurants and bars---go out to eat on East 4th street - it's got a nice selection of newer restaurants, a coffee shop, bars, even a bowling alley/eatery.

If summer - there are festivals around town and in neighboring towns, county fair, that type of thing. Comedy clubs, lovely downtown theaters (book ahead). There are some re-emerging city neighborhoods with great antique shops and boutiques, fun bars and eateries, and art galleries. Dinner in Little Italy and antiquing.

If you've never been, it really is a nice city - but there are neighborhoods, as there are everywhere in the world, that you need to be mindful of.

I'm sure the local tourism board will have everything you need online to plan a grand time. Have fun!

Thanks very much for the tips. It will be our first time doing anything more in Ohio than driving through to get someplace warm. We assist with a local R&R museum (Google Youngtown Omemee)...time to see the Mothership!

We booked 3 days in the area to take in other sights, so this is a big help.
