Black workers 'banned from Gare du Nord during Israeli president visit'

Black and North African railway workers were banned from working at Paris's Gare du Nord when the President of Israel visited France over fears they might be Muslim, it has emerged.

This is just disgusting to think that he forced the French Gvt to oust these people out during his visit...

With the high levels of security that they could put in place you would have thought that to begin with he would have taken a different route than the railway station as is usually done for other visiting heads of states etc...

He is not only contributing to the hate between jewish and muslims on his side of the world but is making things worse by adding to the contamination on our side of the world now!

You can't blame the Israeli President, Shimon Peres. He certainly doesn't control security on French soil.

On the other hand, you can blame François Hollande, the French Socialist President. However, because he is socialist, the left wing press will be silent as a mouse on this issue.

No one said that being a socialist doesn't mean you can't have double standards!

Although i understand and respect your point of view, i am going to have to say that i disagree with you on the first point.

Although he doesn't control the security on French soil, his security advisors and the team around him however certainly have the push to "suggest" that this decision was carried out.

I have just been going over a few links about this and nearly every site link (In French) says that the this was carried out with the initiative of the Isralian ambassador (no news links here as it has been kept very hush hush, probably for fear of public outcry)

I think that you will notice that the right wing press have not talked about this yet either over here in France.

I am not of French nationality so therefore do not have the right to vote over here and tend to keep my political opinions to myself, so please excuse me if i dont go into this part of the story any deeper

Yet I suspect that if a conservative French President has 'bowed' to the Isreali pressure to remove Muslim workers around Shimon Peres's visit, the left wing press would be having a field day attacking the conservative president.

In my opinion and i have just spoken with a few other French people who have choices for both political sides, i don't think that it makes any difference if it was a right or left wing Gvt, both sides would have had a raving media party over here if the other side had "bowed" so to speak.

I guess that both sides are keeping a low profile about this whole matter taking into consideration the high muslim population in France and the consequences that would become if this hit the MSM

If Peres is so paranoid maybe he should borrow the bullet proof glass encased "Pope mobile". The new Pope hasn't been using it, so I don't think he'd mind.

When you reach the point where you have become so afraid of assassination attempts that you request everyone of a particular ethnic group or religion be removed from your path you should snap to the fact that maybe the problem lies within yourself instead of thinking it lies with everyone else.

What actually stumps me... is that normally all heads of states are shuttled around in limousines which are bullet proof.. they cannot say that they did not have any available! (although, as you will read below, he was coming in from Belgium which is quite a long drive to Paris!)

Another baffling thing is why did he not take the plane from Belgium where he was visiting previously, instead of taking the train... especially as this was to discuss the Middle East peace process with President Francois Hollande.

In contrary to what i stated earlier on in this thread, SNCF originally stated that they were asked to do this by the French security services and Isralian abassador but it now turns out that this could have come from senior management at SNCF :

SNCF initially blamed the discrimination on 'security protocol' advised by the French Interior Ministry and the Israeli Embassy in Paris, but this has been emphatically denied by both.

The french are strange people, my son had a pen-pal from France and when my son told him they where learning about the french revolution and chopping of Kings and Queens heads he hadn't a clue what he was talking about. Strange that!!

As far as Peres taking the railway instead of a plane, maybe there was a bomb threat or similar that they wanted to keep out of the press. I'm sure Peres gets death threats on a regular basis. While I agree the truth would be nice we will probably never know.

Actually little, over here in France it is probably wiser to take the plane as much stricter security (very similar now to the USA)...

Trains are much easier to hide bombs on as there are no security checks in railway stations (even in Belgium), but saying this, maybe the bomb squad were used to check the carriage that he was travelling on.

However in main railway stations at the moment the army and police patrol from time to time but taking into consideration the hundreds of people who go through these stations each day they can't really do much!

It is still unsure as to why this happened and there is an investigation currently underway.
