Recently there were some threads discussing the Ft. Hood shooting, and how the current administration is classifying the incident as workplace violence and not terrorism. Because of this decision, the victims will not be receiving purple hearts or the benefits reserved for those killed or injured in a combat zone.

I can agree with this for the most part. They were not in a combat zone or actively engaged in combat operations. They just happened to be on base. Now, don't think they will be left out to dry. They have already or are still getting the services and benefits they rate. Yes some are complaining that they think they are being shafted, but it is only a few individuals. Personnally, I think those few are just trying to game the system. But, I can't say I blame them.

But wait, it is not quite that simple.
I can understand the Gov'ts. stance on calling it workplace violence. But this is an odd situation. Maj. Hassan was clearly a muslim extremist. Based on statements and papers he wrote prior to the shooting, any logical person would have seen to it that the guy was processed out of the military. Unfortunately, political correctness and high ranking officers unwillingness to take action, led to the deaths of many people.

Now this is where things get muddy.
The Marine Corps. in it's infinite wisdom and reactionary nature. Have decided that all Marines need to receive training to identify and prevent incidents of workplace violence. In this training they specifically identify the Ft.Hood shooting as an example of homegrown terrorism.
So now we have a branch of the military directly contradicting the position of the Dept. Of Justice.

I think this is becoming a big legal mess.
Thoughts?
