Yeah, it's a bummer that so many great contributors are no longer around.

I intended on making a similar thread last year listing some of our more prolific members who had been banned, but I was told that was not allowed, which I can understand.
But still, with the lack of thread quality we have been seeing lately, It makes me kind of sad when I think about all that we are missing out on.

All these one liner threads we have been getting lately have been causing me physical pain. I mean what the crap?!?!? If you want to post crap like that use facebook or twitter. ATS is supposed to be held to a higher standard, what happened?

Well, it is. To me it's very disquieting. So many of my friends list have been banned and I just can't figure out why. I know it's kind of a 'taboo' subject, but to me it shows the ephemeral nature of online relationships. People claim to have made "so many good friends" online. It's an illusion. The whole thing can fall apart in a second and suddenly, your new best friends are no longer there. And you never really knew them anyway.

I sometimes wonder if ANY forum posts ANYWHERE have actually changed someone's mind or really changed a life. I'm sure it happens once in awhile, but overall I'm thinking this is simply for your own personal entertainment value and you haven't really made a serious difference. You could play an MMORPG and make as much of a difference.

That's why I think there is a lot of value in BTS. It let's you see a more personal side of people.

And the profile pages, which - honestly - people on ATS just seem to forget about.

Used to be you could click a profile and there would be tons of messages...now, members don't even bother to fill them out or launch them at all.

When I see an interesting post or avatar, the first thing this inquiring mind does is click the profile for more insight. But then, I'm a people watcher by nature from way back.

Sadly, sometimes they pass away.

Ats by it's very nature is transient,

People catch on and surf for a while "Get really into it" for a year or two then simply get fed up with hearing how the world will end this week, or that reptilians are farming us etc.

Then there's the die hards that hang around for the fun and the relatively rare nowadays interesting post. I'd include myself amongst those.

Ats like any site is evolving with a new generation of members and we either evolve with it or leave, I guess some of your old friends just refused to grow with the site, or maybe they found a life

Well, ATS has changed even during my short sojourn here. IMO, it is way too domiated by leftwingers now. A couple of years ago it seemed more balanced. I know I find myself spending less time here then I did. IMO, the T&Cs enforcing political correctness are to stiff and inhibit a truly free flow. In the name of saving someone from getting their feelings hurt, free speech has taken a real beating. This isn't just happening on ATS though. It seems endemic throughout the western world.

I remember GEL, quite some time ago, mentioning in a thread, real life would be taking up most of her time. It happens to a lot of us...we spend a good bit of time here, then real life absorbs that time.

It sucks looking at your friend list and knowing so many are gone.
There were some great contributors and researchers here to learn from.
Nowadays there aren't so many researchers or scientists, but there are still some good people here.
We've shifted gears from learning and searching to entertainment based posting. I guess that's what evolving means.

I'm here , just lurking away for the most part...
