Hello folks. I've been contemplating over the last several months about actually taking the plunge and making an account with the forums here. Honestly, I've been staring at a blank text box for the last 45 minutes since I walked in the door from work.

I guess I can start with an introduction. The user name is an anagram of my actual name, but you folks can call me Kay. I work at a big box retailer and have been there going on almost 10 years now, and I've seen a lot of crazy things happen both with the customers who shop, some regular and some not so much, as well as the fact that as much my employers attempt to sugar coat things in terms of how well the store is doing in terms of daily/weekly/monthly sales, yet I remember a time where there was no concern with picking up 5 to 10 hours of over-time a week. Now it's like pulling teeth to even break 20.

I've been interested in a whole slew of different topics through-out my 29 years of life on this fantastic little planet we inhabit, ranging from simplistic things like hiking and camping in the local state parks. Other topics that have piqued my interest over the years range from historical, mainly American Revolution and Civil War, and current America politics (including blunders we have unfolding around us that seem to be unraveling the fabric of our society with each second that ticks by), as well as pre-European Colonialism.

I'm an avid fan of music and can listen to generally anything unless it's current. Give me anything that hasn't been on the radio since the mid to late 2000 and I am thrilled, except alternative. I love hip-hop, especially the 80's, 90's and early 2000 artists as well as current underground MCs. Tribe. Aesop. Atmosphere. Immortal Technique. Also can kick back and listen to classical, jazz and 80s/90s Metal and Rock. Iced Earth. Maiden. Priest. Floyd.

When it comes to movies, I can watch pretty much anything except slasher-flicks; and for some reason I'm a total sucker for a decent chick flick now and again. Don't judge.

I also am a Hodgkin's Lymphoma survivor. I've been fighting that battle since the summer of 2009. It has been a long, hard battle. Innumerable tests, bags, needles and 5 different surgeries with plenty of late nights with my head resting on the toilet seat with a blanket around me because it was easier for me to sleep on a tile floor than it was to sleep in a bed and have to run across the house with no equilibrium. (I had seen a thread around 6 months ago that had really caught my attention here of another member who either had been just diagnosed, or was starting treatments for HL and was tempted then to sign up and give him/her some words of advice but my hermitry got the best of me. That is definitely one subject I am very well versed in.)

Other areas that garner my attention are both Space Exploration/Are we alone out there, and the paranormal. I do have a couple of stories to share when it comes to the paranormal that occurred when I was a child. I do remember being exposed to the fanciful at a relatively young age. My godparents when I was a child had all these Time Life books on odd subjects. I remember looking at cover for the one about extraterrestrials and seeing the classic slitted, almond shaped eyes with the tear drop heads and grey skin and not being able to sleep at night when I would stay over at their house on the nights that my mother and father wanted a night out without my sister and I before my grandparents move down from Connecticut. Yet, at the same time the books fascinated me. They had such a draw to them. Parapsychology. The face on Mars. Abductions and UFO sightings.

I suppose I should stop here with this rather lengthy introduction. I can be very verbose at times, but I'll leave with this. I am here to learn, read, maybe participate in a discussion or two, or maybe even three. I've learned a lot just from coming here the last two years or so and reading the multitude of threads in just about every forum on this board, and I do hope I can take what knowledge most of you can give out.

Ask me anything. If I can possibly give an answer I will.

-Kay.

Wow. Chocolate-covered strawberries? I'm touched. I know you typically hand out cookies, but this. I'm speechless. Thank you.

I was worried when one of the moderators popped in as the first response that I had committed a faux pas on my first post, still unsure if I broke a rule or not with that. Thank you guys for the warm welcome.

Thanks for the clarification, Sauron. Not going to front here, when I saw that a mod had posted in the thread, my heart skipped a couple of beats.

And Gortex, you're more than welcome to help yourself to the berries. Much more than I could ever hope to eat by myself.

Hi Kay! Welcome to ATS. I spend hours reading things on here in my free time, but, I am not as smart as the rest of this group so I am usually a silent observer. Great people and great topics here everyday! I tell my husband all the time that all of my 'freinds' live in my computer. Sad..but true. WELCOME! No strawberries from me, sorry, just a big smile and hello!
