I also like chocolate chip cookies microwaved for 7 seconds so that they are warm, soft and moist.
But I feel you and understand your points of view... this is an emotional topic to discuss and it's difficult to not let our emotions cloud our thinking. Especially if you have children. So... I'm respectfully bowing out of the thread and I'll watch from the sidelines.

honestly people need to learn to stop treating kids like they are all in bubbles of their own reality, because they aren't. it doesn't matter what they are "supposed" to do, they will worry about it because it affects them whether they like or not.
not all parents will pretend that the child isn't affecting their survival when the child doesn't do well, the parent will beat them.

this is nothing more than shifting the burden to innocents who shouldn't have any influence over their parents money issues.

As far as what children know about the financial aspect of things... they know either if they are poor, well off or wealthy. With an exception being of a few bills, like a cell phone bill or the electric bill. That's it. It's no place for a child to have to play or attempt to play accountant and balance check books or worry about how they are going to get that extra $57.25 for the gas bill due in 17 days.

how do you even know that? who is saying that they are going to be balancing checkbooks?
a lot of children are smart and can read people just fine, there is no doubt in my mind that many children will correlate their parents expressions of unhappiness when receiving a slashed check with them receiving poor grades in school.
for the kids not bright enough for that, their dad beating them for failing to make good grades sure will.

sure it won't happen to everyone, but why create laws that do nothing but make a child's home life worse? either case is bound to happen, since human nature is what it is.

what difference does that make?
i have eyes and i have spent enough time with children to make the observations i did.

if you must know, i don't but i do spend a lot of time with my nieces and nephews and their friends.
the tendency for adults to discount the intelligence of children is a huge problem, mostly because we forget that they are intelligent and absorb what adults do and say, while not having the experience to fully filter it like we do.

the reason i argue against this law, is because children will connect cause and affect, we made quite an effort to teach them to do so after all, and they naturally have the ability to understand it even without knowing what it is. we wouldn't have survived very long if we didn't.
children will see the despair, anger and frustration displayed by their parents when they receive a check, and wonder why. they will either make the effort to find out why or ask someone who isn't intent on hiding it from them.
then they will learn that if they do not do well on schoolwork and tests their parents get less money to survive and the child will internalize this and do worse! of course not all children, some will work harder because they know they have to sometimes because it clicks within them to do so or because they will get a beating if they don't.

these laws scare me because they are conditions that only feed the plutocracy that is taking over this country, they don't help the poor, it just burdens them more.
yes we need to fix the welfare system, but this solution is nothing more than cutting off your nose to spite your face.

it's class warfare at it's finest. it will not fix anything but make more problems for us.

Let's call it what it really is; an attack on people of color by a bunch of white old men in power looking
to solidify their conservative base. The fact that a few poor white people might suffer is just collateral damage.

Look at who sponsored the Bill and tell me he really had the best interest of the poor in mind.

Campfield makes me ashamed to be a Republican!! I guess I should just change my affiliation to Libertarian and get it over with.

This puts too much pressure on the child. If the child has an abusive parent. The child's bad grades plus the reduction in the welfare check amount. (In this economy, you need to get as much as you can get.) Depending the Parent's attitude. The Parent could be angry enough to kill their child because of the bad grades reducing the amount of the welfare check. A few days ago on Park Overall's Facebook page this was being discussed and the majority was not in favor of this law. Park Overall was Laverne on the TV series Empty Nest.
