To be fair, a parody of a parody is irony, which is pretty sophisticated if you think about it. First and foremost Mr Carrey is a comic and actor.
His creations have made people laugh for a long time, and like every comic, some of his material may be considered by some to be distasteful, but
thats par for the course, and an occupational hazzard for people in his trade.
There are comics in Britain, as I am sure there are in the USA, who are far more crass, far less artful, and far more deliberately contraversial in
EVERY manifestation of thier talent, than Mr Carrey has been in this one song. You might not agree with the messege of the song (which is more than
fair enough) but getting upset about it is a waste of effort! Its not as if Mr Carrey is making an actual political statement with this piece. He
probably made it, as many comics do, to get a reaction. If you think this is bad, you should look up Frankie Boyle. I love his style, but am totally
aware that the things he says are utterly terrible...AND BLOODY FUNNY!
One may not find something funny personally, but one must always be prepared to accept that ones sense of humour, and psychological strength might
not be equal to the task of appreciating a certain type of humour, especially if it digs at something that one holds dear. I can laugh when comics
take liberties with the Royal family in thier act, even though I respect the Queen, and the Princes deeply. I can fall into gales of laughter when
comics do a routine that takes the mickey out of the Unions, even though I am technically a socialist. Not everyone has the mental construction that
would allow them to look at humour so objectively, but that doesnt mean that those creating the work ought to fear vilification based on veiws
expressed in thier pieces.
In summary, Jim Carrey is a funny guy, but he has a quirky sense of humour which is designed to get a reaction. All I can say is that if people
REALLY find this offensive, then those people must really HATE Family Guy. That show has made its fortune based on humour which, by the looks of
things must have aggravated everyone on planet Earth at somepoint. Still love that show too.
