Project Lucy: Turning Methane into Diamond Dust‏

Didn't the Mayans predict the fifth world would end in fire? Seems like LUCY would provide a perfect ignition source to do just that.
In a recent radio show it was said that one of the sales pitch's for this hair-brained idea is that Lucy will turn the methane into "diamond dust"...talk about fairytale science! Anything to make a profit, even if it destroys the environment.
The disturbing part is many people behind these programs are Christian fundamentalist's who believe they have a role in bringing about Armageddon and in doing so, are earning a "mansion in heaven next to their Lord and master"....which in this case appears to be in hell next to Satan, if a such a place were to exist.
There is no cure for psychopathy, these people are criminally insane and need to be locked up for life...period.

If experiments at the University of California, Berkeley, are any indication, future explorers of our solar system may well find diamonds hailing down through the atmospheres of Neptune and Uranus.

These planets contain a high proportion of methane, which UC Berkeley researchers have now shown can turn into diamond at the high temperatures and pressures found inside these planets.

"Once these diamonds form, they fall like raindrops or hailstones toward the center of the planet," said Laura Robin Benedetti, a graduate student in physics at UC Berkeley.

The team, led by Benedetti and Raymond Jeanloz, professor of geology and geophysics, produced these conditions inside a diamond anvil cell, squeezing liquid methane to several hundred thousand times atmospheric pressure. When they focused a laser beam on the pressurized liquid, heating it to some 5,000 degrees Fahrenheit, diamond dust appeared.

This could be a good thing if used to stop the flow of methane release in the Arctic. Could stop a dangerous reaction if this works.
