Thats what the Occupiers always say. "Ahhh, they don't mind'

As Ironic as this article is, and even with the pro American Slant, I do find this to be an Answer to all your questions......

Whenever I confront someone who claims that America’s wars abroad were fought for economic gain or to extend its alleged imperialist empire, I ask the person about the Korean War: What imperialist or economic reasons were there to fight in that country?

Over 36,000 Americans died in America’s successful attempt to keep South Korea from becoming communist. And another 92,000 were wounded.

Here is a suggestion: The South Korean government should conduct a national plebiscite on whether America should withdraw its troops from that country. Before the South Korean people vote, the United States should make it clear that if it withdraws its troops and North Korea later invades the South, we will send no troops to die again for South Korea – but we will vote to condemn North Korea’s aggression at the United Nations.

If a majority of the South Korean people wants us to leave, we should. The beauty of such a plebiscite is that if a majority of the South Korean people wants American troops out, we have no moral obligation to stay there.

And if a majority wants us to stay, the South Korean left and other ingrates in that country should shut up.

Ingratitude, thy name is South Korea

And what do you say to those who will die, when America leaves?

I assume you have that answer, for everyone on ATS...........

Peace.

They, yes THEY do NOT like the idea of being ruled by a dictator. They, the S. Koreans do NOT want to live under NK rule. Period.

Thats what the Occupiers always say. "Ahhh, they don't mind'

But have you been there?

HAVE YOU BEEEN THERE intrptr?

No. No you have not. You never met any of those people. I did. Many, many of them. Many of them veterans from 50-53. Many of them that where there WHILE they were occupied by NK until they were pushed back.

None of their stories were good. All bad.

You say what you say out of ignorance, because you've never been there and are assuming something, which means you speak from ignorance.

Until you've been there, you don't know. You can keep saying you do, but you do not really.

I'd love to have enough money to fly you over there. Let you talk to the South Koreans yourself. Then when they tell you how happy they are, you can call them brain washed by the US occupiers, and that they should let NK invade them.

There wouldn't be enough of you left to send to the hospital.

So before you start speaking for a people of a country, why don't you try having actually been there first? Hmm?

My Grandfather STILL has bullets in his back, because of that War. Frostbite took a few toes also.

War is Hell.

I will say this. If the South doesn't want us there, then we should leave. But never again do we send American troops back. Regardless of the aftermath. I don't know anyone that thinks it would be a Berlin Wall moment, if both halves decided to open their doors.

Would love to see true peace on this Earth, but as long as the people who are in control are purposely willing to sacrifice lives for their own gain, we will never see it.

But the question remains. If the South truly wants the United States out, why not make a National referendum, and ask their people?

It cant be that hard, can it?

As I thought.

Eventually though, those "liberal" children will be running that Country.

We will see if their reasoning will ultimately doom them. I still believe that Country should ask the question, and vote on it.

I pretty much think that they'd never hold a vote on it for now. If they did, I do know that the older Koreans would vote "Stay" very quickly.
The younger ones (who weren't even born when I was there) when they do eventually take power, will be faced with one of several things:

Status Quo, and they'll hopefully realize that if they've not built themselves up to counter any incursion by NK, that the US leaving would be suicide.

Regime Change in NK: a new NK leader is there, is acting calm, trying to make trade agreements, backs down on the nuclear program and tries to feed their people. Then it would be a good point that we're not needed there then, or really scaled down.

Or, Kim's still there, promises them everything will be okay. We leave, and NK invades. Those new young SK leaders will never know what happened, because they'll be dead.

However, I am a firm believer that we shouldn't be where we are not wanted. Unfortunately my government, especially now, feels that we the people of the US shouldn't be telling them what to do.

"Toe Hold" on Asian continent. Cold War Era , strategically important in a US vs. Them (commies). This was at a time when WWII armies still existed all over the world. The Korean Peninsula was considered the "soft under belly"-- At_That_Time.

And what do you say to those who will die, when America leaves?

I assume you have that answer, for everyone on ATS...........

Its their country, not ours. We could only do less harm by leaving. Look at Vietnam. Did it evaporate "after the US left"? Neither will Korea. I know who will die, all the collaborators. Not our job to police the world from every despot (which we created), anyway. How many sons do you think America has to defend the world? You want to tell all the mothers who have to give theirs up? For their "freedom"? Let them (the Koreans) earn it on their own, or die trying.

Right now, they depend upon US. And the US will get more "South" Koreans killed by remaining in case of war. Maybe Chinese and...? too. It's their country, not ours. It's their sovereignty, not ours. Let them decide, not US. And that goes for everywhere else for that matter.

Free Trade With All, Entangling Alliances With None

Look at this way, if the country repatriated, there would be this huge new market for Micky D's and Video Games.

Now thats an American Interest.

You haven't been above the "38th Parallel" either. U know better because U been there? The yard stick is International Law, not US "Interests" or "been there".

In the real world (outside the US) International Laws are specific in regards to national sovereignty and rights of nations to self determination. If that notion is lost on you, then there is no point to further conversation on this subject.

I believe the vacuum if America leaves, would start WW3. You cannot compare North Korea to Vietnam. No way.

And no, we didn't "create" The despot who rules North Korea. Thank Communism for that. If you value life, not just American lives, you would see that fixing or both halves reuniting is going to cost many lives. Yes, we shouldn't be "policing" the World, but unfortunately leaving is going to cost that region more lives then what you may think. Maybe even more then WW2.

For the purposes of argument beliefs are meaningless. I was talking about International LAW. You know, self determination, sovereignty and that border stuff you glossed over with your "beliefs"?

You cannot compare North Korea to Vietnam. No way.

What that we died trying, or left crying?

And no, we didn't "create" The despot who rules North Korea.

Oh yes. We radicalized them. It took over 6 decades, but we finally have them radicalized and demonized too.

Thank Communism for that.

I'm not thanking anyone for the mess.

If you value life, not just American lives, you would see that fixing or both halves reuniting is going to cost many lives.

Yep. Just like in Vietnam. And all those deaths were the result of US meddling in their affairs. Just like all the deaths in Korea so far and all the "potential deaths" in any conflict to come will be on US too.

Yes, we shouldn't be "policing" the World, but unfortunately leaving is going to cost that region more lives then what you may think. Maybe even more then WW2.

Pre emptive war then, to prevent war? Whoops...

When we invaded France to defeat Germany, we killed French too. Nobody complained about that.

In my humble opinion, NK is a thorn in China's side, and they are using this opportunity to let them hang themselves.
Economically the West is too important to China for them to go to war, so they cannot support NK in their frankly bonkers sabre rattling.
Unfortunately it seems like only a matter of time before NK does something really, really stupid and truly starts a war.
I'm pretty sure also that UK wouldn't be following USA into this arena like obedient puppydogs as before.
