an ORB; overcast day at Mt. Etna, Italy

Mt. Etna is one of my usual cam stops. Here is what was hovering over the lava beds early this morning:

Number 1 - 0652am
2 - 0730am
3 - 0745am
4 - 0808am
5 - 0815am
6 - last at 0823am

What do you make of this whole "orbs" thing?

I saw there pictures earlier.

Because of the constant radius, the time lapse and 'orb' movement between each picture I thought this was just lens flare from the rising sun.

Does a lens flare change shape?

Does it leave "tracks" in the atmosphere that WIGGLE?

I know you said lens flare. That's why I wanted to get some more opinions.

Uhm yes.. as a the light hits the camera differently it would change its projection..

yes I have to agree with QS, he is right, its the sun beaming off the camera...

orbs are more like crazier than that, and do not show up in more than a few images if that.. really rare to show in mostly more than 1 image for that matter..

I belive it is also the sun causing a lens flare.

i dont see a sun in that photo

i think the sun is actually behind the camera at that time just look at the mountain

i dont think lens flares are orange

and do not make lines that are like snake-ish wiggly-ish

the image after the 1st one became less orange but the orb was still there

so that was no lens flare

No, it's not a lens flare, nor does it look like one. A lens flare is caused when the lens is focussed on a very bright light source, such as the sun. These photographs have been shot in low light, and there is no light source in focus, or present anywhere in the photographs.. Furrther, If the sun was causing the lens flare, it would have been in the sky, not at the bottom near the lava bed. You can affirm this to yourselves by studying actual lens flares caused by the sun. Here is one such example:



The purple spot is what is called a ghost spot.

As for what is in the photograph; I don't know what it is.

I've never seen anything LIKE this before, and I think it's a beautiful phenomenon.

I just hate it when people are so cynical about what's possible to see.

I dont know much about orbs but have looked at a couple sites on the net.
1, I didnt know orbs could be firey? 2 all pictures of orbs I have seen are outside, and they look more "energized" than the one I got a picture of in my home.

One site I was looking at was worried because they have been capturing "injured" orbs. Orbs with chunks out of them, or broken looking orbs??????

Uh, yeah.

I have four photos from the lava beds of Mt. Etna that imply a group of orbs hovering over a dim, out-of-round "one."

I got the impression [intuitively] that I was seeing a group grieving over one of their own.

But, there is no way on God's green earth that I can prove what I saw is what I thought I saw. So, I leave those photos in the drawer.

But, I get your point.
