If night skies are clear in the eastern U. S. and Canada starting at 10:03 p.m. ET on May 15 ( 9:03 p.m. CT, 8:03 p.m. MT, 7:03 p.m. PT ), darkness
will begin to appear on the moon's left edge. As shown in the time lapse photograph by Fred Espenak of a 1998 lunar eclipse, the moon could turn a
reddish color as Earth's shadow covers its face and the Earth's atmosphere refracts sunlight into the shadow.
