GM cars built in Mexico aren't sold in the US. GM operates factories all over the world. It is cheaper to build a car where you are going to sell it, using a non-Union work force, with minimal or no EPA regulations. Not all foreign facilities are non-Union regulation free though.

And I would say the quote about 7 of the 10 vehicles built by GM are manufactured outside the US is a misquote. I think they meant make, or brand, such as Chevrolet, GMC, Buick, Cadillac. These four are manufactured in the US. There are also multiple plants which produce different models of the various makes.

While it does seem pretty suspect that they are expanding their foreign market after getting funds from the American public, I do know that the bailout did have a positive impact in the US. Before the bailout, plant expansions and new projects came to a standstill. Not so much now, with the Fairfax plant in KC MO announcing a $600 million dollar upgrade this year. And that isn't the only project this year.

While GM headquarters may be located in Michigan, it is by no means operates solely in US. Those days are long gone. Today most corporations are global. Companies expand their markets to increase revenue. Especially growing markets like China.

GM isn't the only US auto manufacturer operating abroad. Ford has facilities outside the US. If you check Wikipedia they list US, UK, and Sweden, but I know that they have plants in Mexico. Chrysler as well.

I know it's hard not to, but you should never base your ideals or opinions from a song, a movie, a TV show, or YouTube.

Unlikely. Many companies build the cars they sell in that same country. :Japanes cars are made America most of the time etc. Of course most of this is because standards differ a great deal so a car made for the Chinese woud never pass US standards. Just as easy and cheap to make a thing where it is sold to avoid shipping and not having your cars meet the local standards. Its kind of funny for a long time the big fear was Japan because they were in the same position China is now. Of course we all know what happens in that type of economy, it has to change or you become Mexico.

What type of Economy exactly is ti you are referring to? The Japanese economy has been built as a mirror image since WWII, it wasn't run by the government. The only similarity between the two are the cutthroat slash and hack business models they use. It is also these business practices that have held the Japanese economy hostage for the last decade. When you pay people crap wages, and no time in which to enjoy what money they are making you end up with a depressed economy.

Global trade brought an end to Ford style "Welfare Capitalism" that reigned in the US and gave rise to the investor class that knows nothing about what they are investing in or the business they are running and focus only on quarterly reports.

The difference between Chinese Socialism and American socialism is that when a Chinese socialist is arrested for drug dealing, they are often executed.

When an American socialist is arrested for drug dealing, they get free health care in a prison.

General Motors installed their first automated welder on the assembly lines back in 1961.

Today, GM uses over twenty thousand automated welders.

The GM plant in Mexico is pretty much fully automated. One guy pushes a button to start up the job that three hundred people used to do.

The robots still require technicians to maintain them. But I do agree, GM got bailed out. Which, for some people is quite fortunate. Many people would have lost their jobs other wise. If you would expect CEOs or shareholders to take those kind of losses as opposed to letting the company collapse, I just don't see it.

I know it sucks, it isn't fair, but what else would you propose. That GM failed and some couple hundred thousand people lose their jobs, not to mention those secondary suppliers that are dependent on GM. Perhaps it was cheaper for the taxpayers to support the corporation as opposed to providing welfare for its former employees.
