Why today?
What is coming?

www.spaceref.com...

Maybe it's a 'just in case' meeting, but I get the feeling there's to it than that.

I think there was already a thread about that on ATS....

Why today? Why not?

I'm sure a little planning wouldn't hurt in case something happens.

I'm sure the world governments were as surprise as we all were when an unexpected meteor entered Russia's sky a couple of weeks ago. They probably just wants to have a plan set up to counter any risk and prepare for the worst case scenario possible beside an ELE.

It looks like it is just as it says. I wouldn't read any more into it than you have to.

That said, i'm no expert, so maybe others can chime in.

CX.

After the events over Russia and more of these being found every day with the new technology over the past few years to look for them? I think I'd call them seriously neglecting their duties in Government if they weren't haven't meetings like this to discuss it. I'd say they were still only starting if they tripled the funding and quadrupled the labor. It's a big big big sky.

I think that perhaps the meteorites damage that happened in Russia; is prompting the United States and other countries to figure out how to effectively track and derail asteroids and meteorites before any impact happens on earth again.

I really think this is a wise thing to do.

Are you wondering if they already know that an asteroid or meteorite is heading our way?

If they're gonna have a meeting, it has to be some day or another. Might not mean anything specific is inbound, equally though, it might mean there is...depends on whether you believe anything of importance is left to chance in this world or not...

I remember the UN planning an 'ET reception committee' a year or so ago too, (was talk of an ET ambasador being appointed, but this was quickly downplayed of course)..that was just after the Vatican said (words to the effect) ET exists, and it's OK to believe in them as they are our 'Brothers and Sisters'.

Haven't heard much from this guy lately... Talk about flying under the radar.

Top meeting of outer space threats TODAY?!?!

So, what? Are the Greys, Reptillians, and Hooloovoos having a meeting to decide what to do about us??

In this day and age people have meetings for the sake of meetings so cant imagine there is anything in this.

This ain't the movie Armageddon, there's nothing they have to thwart an asteroid or comet collision, due to their makeup and the velocity they are traveling. So all we can do is be Chicken Little and scream out,,The Sky Is Falling! The Sky Is Falling!

True.
But it's the timing, less than a week to the Ed Dames prediction and some German scientist on GLP. As for outer space threats, people have come forward saying astronomers are picking them up and reporting them, more than they used to. However, consider how many MSM channels are now showing footage of meteor sightings : that alone indicates that things are picking up, stuff may be getting closer and impact more likely. As our planet has been impacted in the past, how did it happen? In other words, most stuff is burnt up and we are safe. But there may be circumstances when our planet is more vulnerable. My gut tells me the weakening of the earth's magnetic field and the 'unusual' non-activity of the sun may account for the reason of this meeting. Of course, in the light of the Russian event, this meeting makes sense.
Nevertheless, I feel rather uneasy about 2013. So far, it has been weird.

I think you may be right..but then again, I'm very much open to the possibility that there are military bases full of things we don't know exist and would argue here for days..could not exist. Yet, I'll just bet ..some of it does and has for longer than we'd believe or they'll ever tell us.

Maybe we have nothing..and then maybe we do. Hard to say..... For instance, the 50 Megaton Super-Nuke the Russians detonated was meant to be twice that size. As it was, the fireball alone was kilometers in size.

Despite the cloudy weather, the flash of light was visible as far as 1,000 kilometers distant, though the sound of the blast would not reach that far for forty-nine minutes, in the form of an indistinct, heavy blow. The giant fireball reached from ground-level to about 34,000 feet into the air, violently releasing 3800 times more explosive energy than the Hiroshima bomb-- equivalent to fifty million metric tons of TNT. One hundred kilometers from ground zero the heat would have inflicted third degree burns. Atmospheric focusing produced areas of destruction hundreds of kilometers from ground zero, including wooden structures which were completely destroyed, and some shattered windows in Finland. The explosion's atmospheric shockwave traveled around the Earth three times before it dissipated.
Source

They'd never tell anyone in the public if something like that could or ever did go into orbit as a fall back plan in an all out emergency. The public these days would just have coronaries all at once to imagine that flying over their heads....and it was meant to be twice that size.

Lets say in this age of super-miniaturization and cooperation (on some things), Russia and China along with the U.S. worked together for just a few moments and made one twice the original design size? 3x's that size? How many dozens of kilometers across would the vaporizing fireball be? I think size is what matters most for options..but if it's smallish to average? Well, that 50 Megaton Weapon would have obliterated the small ones outright, wouldn't it?

That's for sure. Thing is though, what have they got to lose. If it fails...nobody left to criticize you...not even YOU. If it succeeds, you're a hero. So really, it would behoove you to tell everyone.

The only downside is the chaos that would happen after such an announcement, but most may be just too anxious to engage in chaos.

I suppose there are meetings and meetings. Top secret meetings would NOT be publically announced for obvious reasons.
However ,fi the object being monitored for the past 18 months from the top of a volcano in Costa Rica is now starting to move from below the ecliptic to above it, then this object - we shall see - should be visible in N America in June of this year. Admittedly, there is much speculation as to what this object is, but it is being claimed by several sites as a KBO. There is also speculation that its presence is responsible for altering the orbits of several asteroids in the Asteroid Belt making it more difficult to spot them in sufficient time to warn the public.
However, although the existence of this KBO is debateable, there is no doubt about comet ISON arriving in November. Nevertheless, it will be extremely interesting to set if this unknown object IS seen accompanied by its 'bluebonnet' or beehive and what it does. If it does appear, 2013 is going to be the most dramatic year in recorded history.
