Suppressed is great but with out using subsonic rounds they can still be pretty noisy, and I am guessing that subsonic rounds will be difficult to find in a SHTF situation.

So I will one up ya...A rugger 10/22 with a removable suppressor (not all suppressors are removable such as the barrel integrated type), so either round can be used effectively.

There's a big difference between zombies and bear. But whatever you get to take down a bear with most def take down a zombie.

My fiancee has more guns than I need, although nothing of a caliber I feel acceptable. And while I enjoy the zombie tales, either you need to believe they are talking about the average American or they are talking about a world with no proof.

If those two failed me, and I'm in a situation where I need to take out a zombie at a distance...a modern crossbow (quiet).

If I missed, and he's on me, I want a metal baseball bat. (it's a bashing weapon, less zombie blood spraying all over the place).

Don't get me wrong, I want a .22 pistol (quiet, ammo is nice and small, easy to find, and cheap), and a machete with me too, but the above are my weapons of choice for the reasons stated.

Of course, I'll also hope I'm smart enough to be wearing my hard leather armor (that I usually just wear for Ren Faires, etc.), supplemented with some duct-tape made bite protection for the unprotected areas. My armor is pretty thorough, and easy to wear (I've worn it all day on several occasions, so I know I can). I'll have to find a pic. My wife has matching armor too.
