Google Glasses evolution prediction.

I have never posted in "Predictions & Prophecies"before,but today I submit my prediction to ATS,and the world.
It is thus:

In the coming years,there will be an epidemic of squinty eyed syndrome,similar to back in the days of the monocle sporting gents,an example being:


It will be harder for people to see the signs at first,as all the sufferers will be wearing VR overlay googles,like the google glass project about to be unleashed upon the planet.
The google glasses will be the kickstarter for this new phenomenon,although they will soon be copied by many other companies over 2014-15.
Cheaper options will soon be availible to turn you into a gibbering internet reliant semi zombie,and yes,folks will clamour to buy them.


Soon,cell/mobile phones will be a thing of the past,as the new glasses and earpieces take over.
Your kids will witness the internet in this fashion,with a digital overlay telling them info about the world,yet also seperating them from the reality of it.

And squinty eyed they shall be I am sorry to say.

That is my prediction.
In 10 years,If i am right-come back and give me a star.
If you ain't turned into a squinting monkey.

I cant wait to have them... looking at someone and yell "your stupidity level is OVER NINE THOUSAAAAANDD!" ...but they're so damn expensive

Considering that just over 3 years ago a girl starved to death while her parents played games on facebook, I can see this easily happening.

Makes me think of a movie back in the 70's. Anyone feeling old yet? It starred Roddy Piper (the wrestler), in it, you could only see advertising and dark agenda wearing sunglasses, without it, you were just like blind sheep in everyday society. I think the name of the movie was "They Came". Not 100% sure. Just eerie the way cinema showed us things and we never pay heed. Now it's upon us.

We shall see how it pans out over the next few years.
I hope I am wrong about the squinty eye syndrome,but we shall see.

We will have the mk 2/3/4/etc goggles of course,allowing you to see peoples thermal image/EM/IR etc,
all transmited to the cloud in real time-
in the end(or just a few years) you will be able to see what people you walk past had for breakfast,their med/job/school/police records,when folks go open source on the tech.
Which they will do.

Anyhow,Thats my prediction,and hopefully we can laugh about how wrong it was,10 years from today.

Augmented reality is an amazing concept and so very useful in many ways. The problem is how can we still have a concept of secrecy. I want a HUD reminding me what people's names are at a company party, but I would not want people seeing the latest Facebook picture I was tagged in (happy st patties day).

We simply will not be able to keep secrets. For better or worse. This is the new age of enlightenment. Soon I will know everything about you just by looking at you. You better keep a clean house.

To nullify privacy completley is only one step up the ladder of the borg like future we are heading for..
Other steps will be required,later.

The VR goggles are simply the next step.

Recently here on ats, someone posted a question asking for predictions on the world of one hundred years from now. My thought at that time was that 100 years is meaningless. The next ten or twenty years makes 100 years from now a moot question.

My first time hearing of it and it just blew my mind. Keep those things away from me, I will end up hooked like a meth head. I think the bombardment of these gadgets, the google glasses as well as many others we probably haven't heard of yet, is going to be coming our way very soon. Do we just allow them to turn us into zombies so we can be like everyone else and be in with the cool crowds? Or do we stay out of the mainstream loop and possibly miss out on opportunities to use these things for the benefit of mankind? It's going to be a hard road for our children and their children, our generation (Gen X) has had it easy in comparison.

Yeah that was me, I might have been playing too much Fallout lately and I was just curious. You're right that in comparison to the next decade or two that the 100 year question is moot, but I figured it didn't hurt to ask. It didn't hurt did it?

Oh yes, I see that now. I was preparing a long reply to you but did not post. I am probably much older than you,(66) and have been an avid futureologist since my early teens. The predictions that were offered in my youth for our future have been way off course. The complexity of this age keeps multiplying and multiplying to the extent that most extrapolations at this point are mostly, as I mentioned above, wishful fantasy beyond the next ten or twenty.
But lets keep dreaming shall we?

But back on topic, the OP has presented an idea I hadn't considered. So I have some questions about the OP. Would there be an age limit, would a 5 year old be allowed to wear these things? Would people become addicted and possibly withdraw in the event the battery dies or the power goes out? I could only imagine in horror at the long term physical and psychological affects on our brains, scary stuff really.

It is important to note that these Google glasses (and similar 6th Sense HUDs) provide an augmented reality and not virtual reality. AR overlays information on top of what you see. VR replaces what you see entirely. This makes a difference when talking about eye strain. I do not think these will cause squint eye syndrome at all.

There are now certain economic theories which suggest that less than 1% of people own around half of the worlds wealth. If we can take this as true, then I can pose another question.

Do these elite give a hoot about the welfare of the other 99+%? I would venture the suggestion that they for the most part do not.

To continue now, are these elite in constant search of new tech and trends and pop interests so that they might remain in the top 1%. Certainly if they are the captains of this economic structure.

I'll stop in this description of the ruling powers. You and I might of course be concerned by the possible psychological affects of these glasses and any future VR that comes our way, but I think that most people will not be concerned. Especially those who will be selling this tech to us.

Would young children be allowed to use them? OF COURSE. Parents will use them for baby sitters and the elite will champion them as the indoctrination into this form of servitude is better if started young.
