1 Corinthians 12

King James Version (KJV)

12 Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant.

2 Ye know that ye were Gentiles, carried away unto these dumb idols, even as ye were led.

3 Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost.

4 Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.

5 And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord.

6 And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all.

7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.

8 For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;

9 To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;

10 To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:

11 But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.

12 For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ.

13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.

14 For the body is not one member, but many.

15 If the foot shall say, Because I am not the hand, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body?

16 And if the ear shall say, Because I am not the eye, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body?

17 If the whole body were an eye, where were the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where were the smelling?

18 But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him.

19 And if they were all one member, where were the body?

20 But now are they many members, yet but one body.

21 And the eye cannot say unto the hand, I have no need of thee: nor again the head to the feet, I have no need of you.

22 Nay, much more those members of the body, which seem to be more feeble, are necessary:

23 And those members of the body, which we think to be less honourable, upon these we bestow more abundant honour; and our uncomely parts have more abundant comeliness.

24 For our comely parts have no need: but God hath tempered the body together, having given more abundant honour to that part which lacked.

25 That there should be no schism in the body; but that the members should have the same care one for another.

26 And whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; or one member be honoured, all the members rejoice with it.

27 Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular.

28 And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues.

29 Are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? are all workers of miracles?

30 Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret?

31 But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet shew I unto you a more excellent way.

And the following chapter; my favorite chapter in the entire Bible.

1 Corinthians 13

KJV

13 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.

2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.

3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.

4 Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,

5 Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;

6 Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;

7 Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.

8 Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.

9 For we know in part, and we prophesy in part.

10 But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.

11 When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.

12 For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.

13 And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.

And so therefore we are to covet the best gifts.

That means that the imparting of the Spirit is not just a means of assessment. This means that the imparting of the gifts does indeed also come from desiring of the gifts; and the Lord as He wills distributes those gifts. But will not your desire, if it is pure, in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ be granted?

Actually, yes it will. He says it. Let me show you:

Matthew 18

19 Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.

20 For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.

21 Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times?

22 Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.

And also, does Jesus Christ not say that whatsoever you ask in His name of the Father, it will be given you? In fact Jesus says to us that we will not ask things in His name. But He exhorts us, and tells us, please, ask in Jesus' name; the Father will give to you liberally!

Don't believe my words. Believe His. Read all of John 16. Here are the pertaining parts:

20 Verily, verily, I say unto you, That ye shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice: and ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy.

21 A woman when she is in travail hath sorrow, because her hour is come: but as soon as she is delivered of the child, she remembereth no more the anguish, for joy that a man is born into the world.

22 And ye now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you.

23 And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you.

24 Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.

25 These things have I spoken unto you in proverbs: but the time cometh, when I shall no more speak unto you in proverbs, but I shall shew you plainly of the Father.

26 At that day ye shall ask in my name: and I say not unto you, that I will pray the Father for you:

27 For the Father himself loveth you, because ye have loved me, and have believed that I came out from God.

So therefore, it should be understood that whatever the assessment has claimed is your gift, I would not heed it; I would see it as a mere guide to get you to reflect more on the Lord concerning these gifts.

But the words of the Lord I must accept above the words of others.

And so 1 Corinthians 12 proves what SOME of the gifts of the Spirit are. And yet there are more than seven.

For wisdom is a gift, and knowledge, and faith, and healing, and interpreting tongues, and to another speaking tongues, and prophecy, and teaching, and performing miracles, and discerning of spirits (remember how I told you, that is your gift, because you said it).

And then he says again, there are firstly apostles, and secondly prophets, and thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healing, helps, governments, diversities of tongues.

As well 1 Corinthians 14, speaks more on gifts and understanding.

I will post ALL of it to be understood properly in the next post.

1 Corinthians 14

KJV

1 Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that ye may prophesy.

2 For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.

3 But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort.

4 He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church.

5 I would that ye all spake with tongues but rather that ye prophesied: for greater is he that prophesieth than he that speaketh with tongues, except he interpret, that the church may receive edifying.

6 Now, brethren, if I come unto you speaking with tongues, what shall I profit you, except I shall speak to you either by revelation, or by knowledge, or by prophesying, or by doctrine?

7 And even things without life giving sound, whether pipe or harp, except they give a distinction in the sounds, how shall it be known what is piped or harped?

8 For if the trumpet give an uncertain sound, who shall prepare himself to the battle?

9 So likewise ye, except ye utter by the tongue words easy to be understood, how shall it be known what is spoken? for ye shall speak into the air.

10 There are, it may be, so many kinds of voices in the world, and none of them is without signification.

11 Therefore if I know not the meaning of the voice, I shall be unto him that speaketh a barbarian, and he that speaketh shall be a barbarian unto me.

12 Even so ye, forasmuch as ye are zealous of spiritual gifts, seek that ye may excel to the edifying of the church.

13 Wherefore let him that speaketh in an unknown tongue pray that he may interpret.

14 For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful.

15 What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also.

16 Else when thou shalt bless with the spirit, how shall he that occupieth the room of the unlearned say Amen at thy giving of thanks, seeing he understandeth not what thou sayest?

17 For thou verily givest thanks well, but the other is not edified.

18 I thank my God, I speak with tongues more than ye all:

19 Yet in the church I had rather speak five words with my understanding, that by my voice I might teach others also, than ten thousand words in an unknown tongue.

20 Brethren, be not children in understanding: howbeit in malice be ye children, but in understanding be men.

21 In the law it is written, With men of other tongues and other lips will I speak unto this people; and yet for all that will they not hear me, saith the Lord.

22 Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not: but prophesying serveth not for them that believe not, but for them which believe.

23 If therefore the whole church be come together into one place, and all speak with tongues, and there come in those that are unlearned, or unbelievers, will they not say that ye are mad?

24 But if all prophesy, and there come in one that believeth not, or one unlearned, he is convinced of all, he is judged of all:

25 And thus are the secrets of his heart made manifest; and so falling down on his face he will worship God, and report that God is in you of a truth.

26 How is it then, brethren? when ye come together, every one of you hath a psalm, hath a doctrine, hath a tongue, hath a revelation, hath an interpretation. Let all things be done unto edifying.

27 If any man speak in an unknown tongue, let it be by two, or at the most by three, and that by course; and let one interpret.

28 But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God.

29 Let the prophets speak two or three, and let the other judge.

30 If any thing be revealed to another that sitteth by, let the first hold his peace.

31 For ye may all prophesy one by one, that all may learn, and all may be comforted.

32 And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets.

33 For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.

34 Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience as also saith the law.

35 And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.

36 What? came the word of God out from you? or came it unto you only?

37 If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things that I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord.

38 But if any man be ignorant, let him be ignorant.

39 Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues.

40 Let all things be done decently and in order.

I will show you more in the next post.

Now that you have read more concerning gifts (and it is clear that you have read these chapters before, and yet ignored many glaring details; and yet were led away, because you were being instructed by men that know not what they do. But the Lord knows, which is why He revealed Himself), now let me focus on another part that is going to be your next responsibility.

You either take all of God's Word, or none of it. No exceptions. No excuses.

And this is the reason for your pride.

1st statement: God is not the author of confusion. This means, if anyone else is telling you different than what God is about to say, then they're LYING to you.

2nd statement: Women stay silent in the churches. You are NOT permitted. Now many of you women, and even now men these days will say, "No, that's not true. the Lord didn't mean that. He was only saying it because the women in that particular church were obnoxious." Really? See, the Lord knew what your argument was going to be. Because here is the very next statement.

3rd statement: What? You're arguing with God? Did the Word of God come from YOU or did it come from ME? And did Word of God ONLY come to you? OR has the Word of God been given to all whom the Lord appointed to receive it?

4th statement: If you THINK you're a prophet, then you will obey and understand the previous statements, and all other statements of God. These are commandments. The Lord gave Paul the authority to administer these as commandments.

Now let it be known and understood that we know that the Lord Jesus Christ is merciful, and full of grace. And we know that He has found exception to many rules many times, because He is Lord. And He is makes the Law, defines the law, and justifies us from the law, and makes us in the image He determines, and not the image that we, or other men or women determine.

That being said, it is indeed quite a bold claim, if you insist, that it is okay for you. Now to the Lord be justice and honor, and His will be done. By all means, I will not hinder the Lord. But I am reminding you already that whoever is teaching you is guiding you with false words and false doctrine. So then do you take the mercy and the grace of a teacher that is false? Or do you go back to the Lord and His Word and forsake those that are teaching you the wrong thing? Now if you are the only one who has truth around you, then does the Lord prevent you from speaking His truth to them? If there are no men there worthy, and the Lord has not found men there worthy, and then if He so instructs, can you admonish them for leading you down a wrong path?

It is a witness against them 10 times greater! Because a woman is not to speak in church, and it is a shame to her; how much more is it a shame to them that taught you falsely, and then you admonished them for teaching you falsely, and for allowing it! And so it will come upon them.

But ask the Lord concerning these things. I am not the author of His Word. But the Lord has indeed given me the gifts of wisdom, of knowledge, and of understanding. And since you consider yourself wise, I am determined to tell you these things, because it is good to admonish the wise; but to admonish a fool would make a fool out of me. But you are not a fool. You are my sister, and you love the Lord. This much is clear.

But because of the attitude that is possessed here, Paul's advice rings clear. Strive for charity; that is the more excellent way.

I hope the Lord will put you at ease concerning your direction.

Much Love and please be at peace.

*smiles at TB as he sits beside him while patting him on the shoulder, his over-zealous brother in the Lord*.........

I've been walking with the Lord about 30 some years...but this isn't about me..

So, you've done fairly well at fully 'instructing' our dear sister in the Lord about such spiritual matters and making SURE she 'knows' her 'place'...most commendable to some but not all, and I'm SURE she's probably not in weeping rivers of tears for being scathed in public either..

.......however, in all you're 'instructing' you've forgotten on major detail, a few actually ..and even though you pasted it you've failed to really produce anything of real fruit...

*solemnly looks at his over-zealous brother in the LORD " have you really studied I Cor 8 at length .. ? and I see you pasted I Cor 13 in the thread, but, failed to see the words of such in your final post to her....because here we have a classic example of someone, and fairly new to the faith, being taught by well meaning other brothers in the Lord but, due to, perhaps some misunderstanding of scripture, she's also misunderstood the scripture that was TAUGHT to her........................................

could it have been that easy to assume that this is the case ??!
and in all that copying and pasting you did.. you did NOTHING to build her up..............ZERO. THAT is what a true minister of the Kingdom is suppose to be doing........you know, BUILDING one another up in the faith....................

do me and the Lord a HUGE favor ...........................STUDY to show yourself approved (REALLY learn what that means ) and if you can't find the answer through various means of leaning about customs in the bible .......you can always use Google

check your messages.........there's a bit more we need to talk about ..

I am interested in the explanation of the characteristics of the people possessing of the other gifts. I'm interested in learning the means by which people arrived at the conclusions that those characteristics are specific to those gifts. I'm interested in learning who the specific people are that arrived at those conclusions. And I am interested in all other material pertaining.

Service and Exhortation are my gifts, I took the SHAPE class in high school, and was high in service and my developing gift was discernment. It has been amazing to see how God has brought me along and still uses me in these specific ways of service and exhortation. My Jobs have all been centered around these traits, I thrive in environments where I'm called to help. I coach individuals, while i can teach, I don't consider myself a teacher, facts can cover up the heart. I'm a problem solver and am always looking to find the core of the issue and not waste time putting on band aids.

I never tried to gain these gifts. I initially learned these traits In my upbringing, observing my fathers work ethic, my long exposure religious hypocrisy, and various other events. While God ordained the events, I don't believe God is limited by my experience. One thing that I caution with these spiritual gift test, is to not get boxed in to the idea that God can only use me in this way or that, or trap your self in only pursing or developing the higher gifts.

Through Service and Exhortation is how I experience Gods will. Like Mosses who was reluctant to lead, I know God is trying to stretch me. He saying look, I gave you this, trust it and use, I will give you more when you need it, just go. I will say that my time here on ATS has been a stretching for me. I'm not comfortable with conflict and this place is full of it. I'm learning to trust that I can walk on these wobbly feet.

Wisdoms is what I pray for, eyes to see what He sees. But sight is limited, when my feet are paralyzed. He has given me sight, I need to trust that God can heal my reluctant feet.

I think God can teach us anything as long as we are in a position to be taught. I pray that I will not be blinded by pride, thinking of my self better than I ought, but also not focusing on my insecurities and my lack of ability. Pride takes me out of a teachable position and stunt my spiritual growth.

For all believers, We need to understand that we are all a part of one body, but each part can effect the other, a foot can't be the head, but a foot can make the head move in a direction.

Read all of Proverbs 3, this bit just blows me away.

Wisdom is a tree of life to those who embrace her; happy are those who hold her tightly. By wisdom the L ord founded the earth; by understanding he created the heavens. By his knowledge the deep fountains of the earth burst forth, and the dew settles beneath the night sky. My child, don’t lose sight of common sense and discernment. Hang on to them, for they will refresh your soul. They are like jewels on a necklace. They keep you safe on your way, and your feet will not stumble. (Proverbs 3:18-23 NLT)

Thanks for reading

He can teach us anything, if we quiet our minds and allow him to be heard. He started teaching me scripture and his ways without even reading the bible. I didn't know what was happening until i came across those words in the bible later on. Scripture would blurt out of my mouth without me even knowing what it was or where it came from or what book, this started 6 months after i was drawn to Christ, it wasn't until i went deeper into the old testament scriptures that i saw where it was coming from. I was amazed that he could put his words in my mouth quite literally.

The most common way to hear the spirit is through common sense, and our conscience which aids wisdom. It's plain that conscience plays a big part in what we do because of:

1 Timothy 4:1-5

1 Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons, 2 speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their own conscience seared with a hot iron, 3 forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from foods which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth. 4 For every creature of God is good, and nothing is to be refused if it is received with thanksgiving; 5 for it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.

Fools think their own way is right, but the wise listen to others.
A fool is quick-tempered, but a wise person stays calm when insulted.
An honest witness tells the truth; a false witness tells lies.
Some people make cutting remarks, but the words of the wise bring healing.
Truthful words stand the test of time, but lies are soon exposed. (Proverbs 12:15-19 NLT)

Pride leads to conflict; those who take advice are wise. (Proverbs 13:10 NLT)

What is the motivation behind our words.
What does a proud remark look like, what does wisdom look like?

30 years and a condescending tone is what you offer. This brother need to be build up too.

Whether he is right or wrong in his assessment is up for debate, but your correcting a believer too, are you also responsible to be a true minister of the Kingdom, BUILDING one another up.

This is a sound understanding, Little Brother. And trustworthy wisdom given by the Spirit.

I have spent many days digesting the post made by Tarzan Beta accusing me of pride and commanding my silence.
I have read this thread a thousand times if I have read it once, and I am honestly at a complete and utter loss at how anything I've said thus far could be construed as prideful. For crying out loud, my user name is "Stupid Girl".
Regardless, the accusation of pride is grossly misplaced.

I have written pages upon pages of a reply to Tarzan Beta in regard to commanding my silence. All the while, praying, seeking, wrestling, listening. While I am no doubt thoroughly and utterly appalled at his presumptions and method of addressing them through his reply on this forum, I must first seek God's Kingdom and there is more in those pages of my words that represent my emotion and my tenacious personality, rather than the purpose for which God will ultimately use the interaction on this thread to His benefit.

Therefore, I would do a disservice to the integrity of my representation of a Believer in Christ to reply to the previous post made by the OP until I have completely worked through this challenge and feel that I have absolutely received an understanding which rightly divides the Truth of God's Word.

Sometimes i think our greatest enemy is ourselves, or particularly others who have different views on scripture and how we should be. Too many conflicting beliefs straying away from Christ, each one pointing the finger and making accusations at the other. Thats why i declared nondenominational and started seeking the Apostolic Church and it's ways. Don't pick the tares, let Jesus deal with them, he'll burn those when the next reaping comes.

Paul states, "As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. 2 Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. 3 Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. 4 There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called; 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism; 6 one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all."(Eph 4:1)

God is not over men only. He is over all. God is not through men only. God is through all. God is not in men only. God is in all. God is in all Believers, regardless of race, culture, stature or gender. All Believers have the potential of reflecting the total sum of God's character placed within us as human templates, which would be ignorant to limit to gender simply because He is referred to as such for our communicative purposes. Yes, God is our Father, yes, He is the Son, but He is also the Creator and the template for the perfect potential in the nature of mankind, as He originally created it- male AND female. And we know that the potential for perfection is there because Jesus achieved it and offers it to us through Him.

I highly recommend this teaching to you and the other two individuals who starred your post, covering the topic in which you addressed:
What did the Apostle Paul mean about women's silence in church?

I have already answered your question as to where the material comes from, which is Master's Men, with a link included, in regard to the source of the material being shared with you on this thread. I will also repeat that my pastor has used it as a tool for discipleship over the course of many years, and has tailored it throughout that time to a format that has consistently borne good fruit. Tailoring includes "Homes of Honor" by Smalley & Trent and "Finding a Job You Love" by Matteson & Miller.

I am not preaching new doctrine, and I am most assuredly not sharing anything that is contrary to the Word. What I was sharing with you is simply a format for introspection at evaluating yourself. With the sole and singular point to be a tool for those in the Body of Christ to garner a better understanding and direction as to their place and function within the Body of Christ.

I also stated that there were 5 total steps that were used to help give a better understanding of a person's spiritual gifts, which includes all those discussed in scripture. The remaining steps (H.A.P.E.) comprehensively address the Biblical teachings we are given on the spiritual gifts. All of them. I was not ignoring your questions, my intentions were to allow the remaining steps of the process to answer them for you.

I will close my response to you, in which also closes my participation on ATS as this will be the last post by Stupid Girl, with only the kindest regards and best intents. My time here on ATS has, all-in-all been well-spent and truly an invaluable tool in refining my spirit.

God bless you all, and go with Him,
SG

Don't suppose what you saw in the beginning of your dream looked anything like the old Nuremberg UFO painting?
