Over the past years mans best friend wiggles their ways into you heart. Why is it that, we make them our best friend, we can be in a bad mood and they are still there to cheer you up, when your feeling lonely they jump and sit next to you.

Well one of our family members could not beat the Lyme diases version two, the hardest thing is to look at your sick dog that is having kidney faliure and have them put down all because of a tick.

Why is it that we shed tears for a dog? is it because they are family.....I don't know but the wife and kids all are acting different because of the loss.

So please anyone that has a dog, if you see this sign....Lost of appitite, not WOLFing it down like normal, Take them to the vet and have them checked for Lyme Diease. Unfortantaly I did not know the symptoms and when I seen our beloved dog sitting down and taking it slow while she was eating as, look she finally has manners and is not wolfing it down...My mistake, if I knew then what I know now I would of taken her to the vet and she would of been treated for it, but instead I waited two month to long before I took her to the vet but by then it was to late.

Oh, hon. I'm so sorry.

Pets are family, they do wiggle their way into your heart. It's devastating to lose such a family member. Especially since their joy in life so enhances your own life.

Words aren't enough, I wish I could offer more.

Hugs to you and your family.

Yah thats hard thing to deal with. My dog passed away a couple months ago because of kidney failure issues. Was very sad, but in time it slowly gets easier. Just know they are in a better place and not in pain now.

Wish you the best

My condolences for your loss, they do indeed become part of the family. It's that unconditional love that they seem to give so naturally that make them creep into our hearts.

Strength and love

Thanks for the information on symptoms, 19KTankCommander
Sorry for your loss. We had to let one go a few months ago, after 13 years.
I do wonder at "where" on the Consciousness train dogs (pets) sit.
I think it's a lot higher than we give them credit for.
Another puppy will surely help your family rebound from the loss.
Best Wishes.

So sorry to hear about what your friend, and in essence, family member, had to go through--& what grief you are going through now.

We moved to the upper mid-west recently, and heart worms were not a problem where we from, the desert essentially. But, we found that here they are so after testing, we put them on prevention meds.

Was it a total loss of appetite for your friend, or just normal food? The reason I ask is because my dogs are acting strangely toward their normal dog food but not any other food. I thought Lymes was a spring/summer disease but I suppose I'm incorrect.

Positive prayers, thoughts, wishes sent to you &yours. (Hugs)

I want to thank everyone that has a dog and understand the hardship that is involved in putting your pet down. I'm 47 years young and I still weeped looking into my dogs eyes as she laid there during her passing.

During the last few months while I was on ATS she would lay behind my chair just waiting for me to move, she would hear me talk to myself (I'm not crazy my wife had me tested) about the topics and would not say a word.

I think she under stood that this world and contry that we live in is not fair to the working man or their dogs (Wal-mart old roys dog Food) but she never complained.

Thanks all and keep up the good work.

Each time I have lost a furry child, I have grieved for months over it. I'm so sorry for your loss.

I find your story to be extra sad, because Lyme Disease is a creature from Plum Island, placed on ticks as a convenient disease vector. They didn't realize that deer swam the mile long stretch between Lyme, CT and Plum Island, and then back again....bringing the artificially diseased ticks with them as they did.

In other words, it is a weaponized mycoplasma, now gone rampant all over the world.

I just lost a 5 year old cat to rapid kidney failure this past summer. The vet told me that she is seeing a rash of kidney failures in dogs and cats, and because it is such a small town, she is concerned. However, we are in the desert and don't have ticks out here.

I did some research, and found a paper from the University of Colorado Veterinary School, which said that they have found "infiltrates" in kidney biopsies from pets who have passed suddenly with kidney failure, and they say that they think that the vaccinations given can sometimes cause an allergic reaction which damages the kidneys and causes them to fail early.

Whatever the reason, the loss is great. It's NOT just a dog, or a cat. It is a member of the family, dearly loved and sorely missed. My condolences.

Our dog Dixie, was a Bichon Frise, she was about to turn 7 years old, the best guess she was bitten by a tick June/ July, we did not see anything wrong until December that is when we first found out about the dieses and she was treat, BUT....after talking with the VET, he asked when did we first notice that she was not eating her food (Wolfing it down) I told him It was late summer maybe Aug/Sept, he explained that this is the first sign of Lymes Diease, there are two forms one is lyme and the other I can't remember the name of but this one is treatable in the early stages but not the later half unfortantaly since we did not know the signs it got into her kidneys and they were shutting down.

To be on the safe side take you furry freind in and have them run the test, tell them not only to check for lymes but the other tick dieases.

Having lived in the North woods of wisconsin I thought I knew alot about the ticks up here but I was wrong.

I am so sorry for you loss.

Pets are family...and they cannot tell us when they are ailing.
I know you and your family will miss her....but, from experience about this, time heals.

I'm so sorry for your loss! I just had to post when I saw this!
Please don't beat yourself up! It's not your fault!
Lyme is one of the most sneaky, insidious diseases there is!
Those sure weren't symptoms anyone would recognize as Lyme!

Two of my sister's dogs got it. One had arthritis soo bad, but they just said it was old age!
She told them, that she only got like that after she had a tick.
Finally they tested her & gave her antibiotics.
But it only knocked it down a little, it didn't cure it. It would flare up a couple times a year.
Each time it got worse & the medicine was less effective!
The other dog was only just starting to limp.
But eventually she had to have both of them put to sleep they got so bad!

I will have had Lyme for 20 years this April. It was misdiagnosed for 13 years.
So now I will probably have it forever. They tell me it's chronic!
I'm a human. l could talk & tell them what I was feeling. AND I had two bulls eye rashes!
It didn't matter. The test came back negative.
So I was misdiagnosed until I was finally life flighted,
paralyzed from the neck down with Guillain-Barre!
That was the easy part, I recovered from that & learned to walk again!

The only antibiotic that ever helped me, they quit making!
They have tried probably 10 to 12 different kinds.
It knocks it down a little for a few months, but it always flares back up!

Not trying to make this about me! All I'm saying is...
even if you had taken her in sooner, treatment may not have helped her.
There has been a lot of kidney failure around here lately too.
Maybe there was more than the Lyme going on at the same time?
I never heard of kidney failure with Lyme before.

My cousin just had to have her cat put to sleep. It wouldn't eat, was wasting away!
$400 worth of tests, but the vet couldn't find anything wrong.
We had one die from kidney failure in Sept. They don't know why either.

They still have a lot to learn about Lyme,
or there wouldn't be so many people around who can't get rid of it.
There is a vaccine, but the one for humans was taken off the market. I don't know why.
I assume there must have been problems with it! So is the one for pets even safe yet???

Dixie was lucky to have spent her time with you! Because of you she had a happy life!
Everyone grieves differently. I've heard people say, losing a pet is too hard.
They never want to have another one!
But when you think of how many animals are unwanted in shelters, it just breaks your heart!
Some people get tired of the commitment of a pet.
Or are too busy & get rid of their pets like toys they're bored with!
I'm sure the poor animals wonder what they did wrong!!! It makes me so angry!!!

I promise, eventually you WILL be able to think of her & smile!
But it will take awhile!
Remember how happy you made her.
How she was always glad to see you when you came home!
How when you were tired or upset, she would lay by you.
Not expecting anything, just wanting to be by you to make you feel better!
It's amazing how in tune to us dogs are!
Nonjudgmental, not wanting anything but to be near us!
They sure could teach some humans a lot!!!

Peace & healing. Dixie loved you!!!

I'm so sorry for your loss. They truly are family members. I can't hardly think of the pup I buried almost three years ago without bursting into tears.

With a dog on it's last legs herself I totally feel for you. It's incredibly hard to lose a family friend no matter their species. I've had my Dalmation since I was 12 years old and she has had many close calls. Unfortunately this time, there isn't much we can do. Her hips are going, she's deaf, going blind, has a growth on her chest that we have been keeping an eye on. It's incredibly hard to watch our friends die, even if they are a family dog. There is only so much that can be done. Every day I wake up and wonder if she is in pain, should i take her to be put down.(vet said she's not in pain as far as they can tell, and she's just old. I could put her down, or let her go.) It's an awful feeling knowing it's coming, it's an even more awful feeling having to put them down. We've had to put down one other dog when I was younger, and a cat and it never gets easier.

Rest easy knowing you are merely human. It's entirely natural to feel for your friends, no matter their species. I truly feel for you, and hope you can remember your pet in the good days rather than that last moment. At least they are no longer suffering.

Sincerely with you man.

-Jinx.
