This is somewhat of a "self-indulgent" thread, but also a sort of log for me. A log to keep up with my own thoughts, along with the thoughts and opinions of ATSers.

I'm not entirely sure if this is posted in the right place, so mods, feel free to edit.

Here is the purpose of this post;

Tomorrow, I will be starting a "five day fast."

I have been cussing and spewing anger a LOT more often lately, and my thoughts and dreams have been becoming much darker due to some family drama (dreams of war, my friends committing suicide, etc.).

I've also been taking God's name in vain quite a bit.

I believe in God (not churches or religions, but I do believe in a supreme being).

And I think I may have been ticking him off lately, judging from what's happening to the loved ones around me lately... and me as well.

Also, while my "working out" has been making me feel better, it hasn't really helped much with the extra weight on me. So, after studying up a little on what the body does in starvation mode, I believe I'm ready to experiment with it.

So, this fast is partially a spiritual cleansing, and partially a physical health de-tox.

Let me de-construct a bit of misinformation regarding this slightly controversial topic.

First of all, in starvation mode, the body does NOT eat the muscle UNTIL the fat stores are depleted.

Starvation mode is a state in which the body is responding to prolonged periods of low energy intake levels. During short periods of energy abstinence, the human body will burn primarily free fatty acids from body fat stores. After prolonged periods of starvation the body has depleted its body fat and begins to burn lean tissue and muscle as a fuel source.

That quote is from Wikipedia, regarding "Starvation Mode."

To read the whole thing, go here. ---> Starvation Mode

Also, it IS true that the body is in hyper-storing mode when it's suffering from starvation. If you eat any food while your body is in storing mode, it will stock up a considerable amount of stores (fat) to save for a rainy day, aka more starvation.

So, I have an idea on how to dodge the fat bullet.

After this five day fast, in which I will be eating nothing and only drinking water, I will consume very small amounts of fairly lean foods, like sardines. Very high in protein, very low in fat. And I will eat very small amounts of them in the day following the fast, like two or three little cans worth.

In the two or three days following the fast, I will very slowly ween myself into the habit of eating regularly again, and during this time, ONLY eat small amounts of lean foods. No ramen noodles, fatty meats, sugar filled stuff, etc.

Right now, I'm enjoying some lasagna, prepping to go without flavor for nearly a week.

I'll update the thread along the way to keep up with how it goes.

Here I come, God!

So... here goes!

You might consider starting a Lipo-C regimen in your daily diet. I was not what you consider over weight, and lost 20 lbs in 4 weeks just adding it to my diet. The energy burst is amazing. I leveled off to 110 lbs and have stayed there.I'm 5 ft tall so that works just fine for me. It's easy to make and not that expensive. Link to Lipo-C thread in my sig.

For full on fasting. A lot of water to flush the toxins out of your system.

Whoah, 5 days without any (zero) food does not sound like a healthy thing to do to yourself. You might find it puts you in a horrible state mentally and physically so perhaps go for a 2-3 day fast first. 5 days is an extreme amount of time to be starving yourself and surely not healthy.
Voluptuous women are awesome. Skinny women in fashion mags are sticks and all fake.

Starvation is a severe deficiency in caloric energy, nutrient, and vitamin intake. It is the most extreme form of malnutrition. In humans, prolonged starvation can cause permanent organ damage[1] and eventually, death

I think one of the biggest conspiracies is people have been taught that 'dieting' means a temporary change in eating habits. This is wrong, bad, unhealthy, and every negative thing I can think of.

If you starve yourself for a week, what do you think your body will do when you start eating? It will start storing MORE fat in case you start starving again.

The best, healthiest diet lasts a lifetime. You take in a certain amount of calories every day, and then you BURN them through exercise every day.

Depriving your body of nutrients is never a good thing.

Thanks all.

Just to be clear, I'm not planning for this to be a permanent fix to a permanent problem.

I have done 2-3 day fasts before, and they made me feel astronomical. Very vivid, light, and yes, I lost a small amount of weight.

I plan to do small fasts like this occasionally through my life, once or twice every month or so. I understand that doing it once will not fix me.

I also don't plan to be skinny. I'm not really of a fat OR skinny build, I'm just of a "bigger" build I guess. Not too big. Just not small.

But the extra weight on me is becoming more noticeable, along with my spiritual impurities, both of which can be helped with a fast. They have before. The problem is, I can't always have the discipline to KEEP myself in the habit of eating slightly healthier and fasting every few weeks.

I have done it, and it worked. When I stopped, it stopped working. Simple as that.

Also, I know that the body is in "storing" mode when in starvation. I already posted my theory on that, and how I plan to counter it. Not entirely sure if it will work, but won't know until I try.

Ha!

HA-HA!

Oh YOU'RE FUNNY! You're CLEVER!

But, seriously, I don't care for sweets that much. That would've been a lot more heart-wrenching if it were a picture of buffalo wings, but... cake? Eh.

I'm go'in with Jigger on this one. Adding that it would be wise to work up to such a length of time with out food.
Just to suddenly cut yourself off from food seems as tho it might bring a host of adverse affects. Or maybe none at all.

Interesting... I was just reading some stuff about fasting... yesterday actually...

Ironic I suppose... I will share just for fun

He speaketh again therefore to them concerning these things;
Wherefore fast ye for Me, saith the Lord, so that your voice is
heard this day crying aloud? This is not the fast which have chosen,
saith the Lord; not a man abasing his soul;

Barnabas 3:2
not though ye should bend your neck as a hoop, and put on sackcloth
and make your bed of ashes, not even so shall ye call a fast that is
acceptable.

Barnabas 3:3
But unto us He saith; Behold, this is the fast which I have chosen,
saith the Lord; loosen every band of wickedness, untie the
tightened cords of forcible contracts, send away the broken ones
released and tear in pieces every unjust bond. Break thy bread to
the hungry, and if thou seest one naked clothe him; bring the
shelterless into thy house, and if thou seest a humble man, thou
shalt not despise him, neither shall any one of thy household and
of thine own seed.

Hmm.. first day. Nothing but mild hunger right now. That's normal.

It is rather hard to be doing my online school work in the dining room, right next to the kitchen, watching all the food... ANY way, I am, for the record, taking some fat burner pills routinely this week while I preform the fast.

We'll see what happens!

Great thread. Thanks for sharing.

I actually fasted for the first time last week for 3 days. I don't agree with some of the comments above about how it's so bad for you. I believe preparing for it and researching it is an important step.

Basically what I did was only drank a small 8 oz. glass of juice (100% juice of course, I used grape) as a breakfast/lunch/dinner replacement. I drank water in between. I continued my normal lipo vitamin C regimen as well. The first day wasn't that bad. The second day was somewhat brutal. The third day got better I think because my stomach shrank a bit and I was just used to it at that point.

I have to say, I surprisingly felt fine. My energy level hardly dipped. I also lost 4 lbs to boot. However, I was doing it more for spiritual and detoxifying reasons but there's nothing wrong with losing a few extra lbs. eh?
I'm actually going to be starting another 3 day fast with my husband tomorrow.

Oh yeah, and I think about all the money we save from groceries by doing this.
