Did you ever see something that people do that was obnoxious "just because"....

What are the things that are seemingly benign but ultimately annoying to look at that you notice in people?

For me, I hate when people are walking with a closed umbrella and they do that Charlie Chaplin thing where they cock it up every other step.....like they are very gentlemenly......

Or when people walk with their hands behind their backs like they were handcuffed. Again, trying to look very gentlemenly.....like they were inspecting something....

I know these things arent rude, or bad....they just look freaking annoying looking. An eye sore.

so what urks you about people´s habits and mannerisms?

People that get way WAY over-enthusiastic about nothing. Watched a stranger outside the store go absolutely nuts over the hub caps on a passing car. There was nothing special about them, but I don't care if they were made of gold and studded with diamonds, they're just hub caps.

Do you live in a Charles Dickens novel? I'm picturing a busy street full of people twirling umbrellas and walking with their hands behind their backs.

When people try to cross their arms to exude strength and power. This actually tells me the opposite...they are afraid of the current situation and are protecting their innards. So telling EVERY time.

that is a great analogy....LOL

It is really odd...it is like since a few people did it, and then many proceeded to do it.

It does look odd though....its why I noticed and made a thread about it. I hate it. I hum a little tune to myself when I see this stuff, the kind a silent movie would have in a comedy sequence....

good mind....

It irks me when an introductory handshake's grip is far too strong.

I know that a firm handshake is good, but some people have the insane notion that a vice like grip asserts dominance, and that if you crush their hand you've somehow proven you're physically superior, even though it shouldn't even be an issue, because it's just a handshake.

I've been on the receiving end of these handshakes, and personally I'd love to grab these peoples hand, pull them towards me and give them a good old Glasgow kiss. But that's not good social etiquette.

Overcompensating annoys me too. Constant tales of bedroom conquests or brawling especially. I don't believe them, IMO these people can project their inadequacies on someone who is more easily impressed.

For me it's people who are talking to someone in a public place but do so extremely loud so as to make sure that everyone in the vicinity hears them- like they are announcing their conversation to the world or something- and they do it intentionally.
