Got this in my email today, anyone know if its true or not?

MARLIN FIREARMS CLOSING ITS DOORS

Even if you do not own a gun you need to know this.
checked this out on "Truth or Fiction" who verified it. I trust them more than snopes.

Marlin Firearms is already closing its doors! They are doing it to us, America ! This needs to be spread to all gun owners and sportsmen/women. We cannot rely on the media to inform us of these types of matters.

Something You May Not Know That Is Happening ... Who is buying companies, manufacturing guns??? For the last several years a company called The Freedom Group has been buying up gun and ammunition manufacturers. Some of the companies are Bushmaster, Marlin, Remington, DPMS, Dakota Arms and H&R. Some people worry that this Freedom Group is going to control most of the firearms companies in the United States . If you control the manufacturers you can decide to stop selling to civilians.

What a perfect way to control guns. Now if you do some digging you will see that The Freedom Group is owned by a company called Cerberus Capital Management. Guess who controls Cerberus??? GEORGE SOROS, Obama's chief financier!! He wants to restrict or ban all civilian guns. Please pass this on to all your freedom loving friends. This needs to come out. Why have we not heard about this in the "mainstream" media? I would think this would be BIG news. (Soros also owns Progressive Insurance). If you don't know who George Soros is, you need to do some Research. He backed Obama with millions of dollars and Obama is a puppet on a string controlled by Soros.

Nothing on their website that seems to indicate anything wrong with the company and wasn't the freedom group going to sell off all its firearms interests in the next month or 2 so perhaps someone misunderstood getting rid of (selling) to mean shutting it down and locking the doors

If true, can't the company just find another financial backer or maybe become employee owned, like Harley Davidson did back in the eighties?

Googling the story also points to Sept 2012 with nothing further that I can find.

I thought I read something like that here. That they were getting rid of their gun company stock and why now. It's a great time to be a gun maker. Would hate to see Marlin shut down, they make a sweet lever action 30/30.

Vacuum dear Brother!
If there is a market, someone will surely fill the need.
If not I will start my own production!

Besides, I never been too big on Marlin firearms, my buddy had a Marlin 22 that jammed more than it fed and there I was with my old 10-22 burning up the bricks.
I also had I believe a Marlin model 336 (30-30) cal lever action that jammed quite a bit...a lever action that jammed...
I will say though that some swear by their Marlins and maybe I just have seen the bad ones.
Still it is sad to see any gun company shut its doors, almost like watching family portraits burn in the fireplace.

I hope it's not true! I have a Marlin 30-30 that I love, and after taking her out with it to do some target practice a few months ago one of my daughters asked for one just like it for her birthday. I think I will go ahead and buy it early and hide it until her birthday in the fall- just in case.

There were a few threads a while back that focused on the group headed by Soros and how they were buying up stock in firearm manufacturing companies quite a while back and it was speculated that this might be a precursor to an attempt by the feds at gun control. Seems like the speculated scenario may have been well founded sadly.

The Marlin Model 60 I have is, by far, the best .22 I have ever owned. Never a misfeed and so much more accurate out of the box than the 10/22.

Here is my pic of mine. A $150 build (including the gun). I am sure it will be illegal within a few months....

According to the NRA:

In reality, at no time has George Soros ever been a part of the ownership group of Freedom Group or Cerberus, and as a privately traded corporation, there is no possibility that he will be in the future.

This unsubstantiated rumor has caused a great deal of unnecessary concern for gun owners. NRA-ILA urges our members to take great care before repeating baseless rumors found on the Internet.

So unless the NRA has sold out, I would say that that e-mail, at least in part, is not true.
