What if all 250,000,000 adult citizens in the US were required to carry a gun?

Have you ever thought about how many hunters are out there that have more than one weapon? Think about this......Why did Japan never invade the US during World War II, because they knew that the citzens of the country were armed and they knew they would not last long on our shores.......Check the History.

Just ask Australia.. Once the guns were gone crime on the elderly went up.. As well as burglaries, grand theft auto etc etc... Although there would be way more cops shooting citizens.. Now anyone reaching for their wallet and registration can be considered reaching for a weapon?

Nah, Japan just destroyed Pearl Harbor but what does that have to do with hand guns?

Do I really need to check History to know that Japan has never landed forces on N. American Shores?

www.pbs.org... Attack Then, in June 1942, the Japanese attacked the Aleutian Islands. Regional naval officers directed Japanese forces to bomb an American military base at Dutch Harbor, killing more than 100 Americans. Within a week, Japan's Northern Area Fleet pushed forward and seized the islands of Adak and Kiska, marking the first time that American territory had been occupied since the War of 1812.

Check YOUR history.

Maybe it wasn't successful but...

Peace

I would say it would make it the unsafest nation on the planet. Well good luck to you all. I sometimes wonder about some Americans ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

I'd say it's already one of the most dangerous Nations on Earth to live.

Funny thing, I spent 8 years in Korea and it was one of the safest places I've lived.

Not going to happen.

What would it be like walking down the street knowing that 4 out of 5 of the passing public were carrying? Would you feel more safe or less so?

hell no. That'd scare the f out of me. The guy behind me could get pissed I'm walking too slow and shoot me in the back without me having any chance of defending myself.
Americans aren't capable of self control, forcing them to carry guns is a terrible idea.

Bill O'Reilly really has a good idea on how to lower gun crimes. Never thought I'd say Bill O'Reilly had a good idea!
Just make it any gun crime a federal crime with a mandatory sentence of minimum 10 years. People would definitely think twice before trying armed robbery.

Not too many Nations would like to come up against something like that.

No one has been trying to invade us though. No one would try it as is! We have enough guns already. We own 50% of the world's guns.

First of all, nobody should be forced to carry guns, just the same as nobody should be forced to pay an income tax, just as the same as nobody should be forced to own a car.

Second, at the height of the cold war, we were on the brink of nuclear world destruction but we avoided it without pulling the trigger. You really think if every adult in America were walking around with guns and trained to use them that people would go shooting others in the back everyday?

Don't be so paranoid.

YAY! My first gun thread. (Please note sarcasm) However, I have been thinking for the last few days about this scenario.

There are approx. 250,000,000 adults in the US right? So what if there was a "coming of age" license (like a car or the right to drink) where every adult citizen was given the right to own a gun? Let's say at the age of 25 for theory's sake. Walk into a store, get your paper and a gun. Done.

And if it was mandatory because you were responsible for being the first line of defense and protecting yourself before calling on an ever decreasing efficient Serve and Protect club while at the same time reducing the payroll of these thugs in uniform? And it was mandatory to take firearms safety in school?

Now we know that the license will depend on mental stability, criminal backgrounds etc so let's put this number at say...200,000,000 just for argument sake.

What would it be like walking down the street knowing that 4 out of 5 of the passing public were carrying?

Would you feel more safe or less so?

I'm curious because I try to put myself into the mindset of a criminal and think about walking around in public where 80% of my potential victims are most likely able to kill me on the spot. I might think of another career to pursue rather than being a thief, mugger, murderer, rapist, child molester, kidnapper, bank robber etc.

Maybe it's just me but...Granny with a gun on her hip is going to deter many would be thieves. And if she has a problem? More around her to help out.

Further...Invading forces against 200,000,000 armed citizens? hmmmm? Gotta think twice on that one right? Not too many Nations would like to come up against something like that.

Peace

There would be a reduction in the idiot/population ratio and an increase in prison inmates.

We could just get rid of prisons and have a perfect gene pool in America.

You'll find a higher percentage of the population that wants to have access to medical services, then you will that want to be given guns.

Agreed,

But the question remains...what's the difference if you are forced to do either?

The Freedom issue remains the same does it not?

Sort of.

The Swiss have compulsory military service in the Militia for 18-34 year old males who are fit for service. These conscripts are required to keep their personal military equipment, including their assigned weapon, at home. Apparently, since 2007, this does not include ammunition.

The conscripts must do basic training and participate in exercises.

I don't really think that any of it is done with the idea that it will reduce crime.

I prefer the old brainwashing to these new lobotomizing techniques between the Metros and the vacuous 20 somethings I wonder how they walk and chew gum.
Worse, they think they are superior above us,ENTITLED and they can't perform well under pressure because apparently their fight or flight capabilities are impaired.

And if a banana was flying low down Mulberry street and lost all its wheels, how many pancakes will it take to cover a doghouse?

Answer mine and I'll attempt to answer yours...

Generalization and a catch phrase...20 yard penalty. 4th down.

Now..try again without corporate programming...and strike the now defunct word "entitled" from your vocabulary for 10 years until it holds meaning again.

Toss it on the pile of now dead words (like Nazi's, socialism, feminism, and many other words the right wing has destroyed mercilessly in their endless pursuit to dumb down communication.)

The only problem with that is that if the adults were getting angry at other people or they were criminals themselves then it would suck. they would be able to shoot a-lot of people.

A rifle without ammunition might as well be a club.

There are better things to use as a club.
