Is US obligated to promote Democratic Ideals?

Is America morally obligated to promote democratic ideals within other nations? I have to do an LD debate on this topic. I was wondering what your guys' opinions were and maybe if you could help me find some good quotes (affirmative or negative) pertaining to this topic.

Personally, I'm negative on the topic and I think America is hardly suitable to tell other countries how to operate.
